Hi all,
I'm bracing myself to start dismantling my carburettors, I'm just checking them over , taking pics and working out which bits to zinc plate which to chrome etc before taking the plunge. Are the bowls and caps polished or zinc plated ? I've also noticed what appears to be a screw where there should be a bolt on the plate set (stay) highlighted in the pic hopefully. Is this correct or has someone been losing bits? Finally any tips before i take the plunge? Thanks in advance!!

The tops and bowels polished and most of the parts yellow passivated on the original sets ;)
And be very careful to check that the rivets in the butterfly, some are alloy and get eaten when pickled.

These pics may give you an idea Mick. These are a set that Graham has refurbed from his K6. They probably aren't exactly as they were when fitted at factory but not far off.

Thanks Graham, Julie those pics are exactly what I needed! I see that screw on the end is correct! :o Thanks :)

Loads of little parts on these and don't lose the crush spacers on those top 3 bolts and the screw ;)

Cheers Graham, I'll look out for them now I know they are there! :)

Graham, Help! :) where did you get your carb parts plated? I'm picking my carburettor parts up from Allenchrome next week, they've done all the zinc plated parts but say they can't do anything with the two (alloy?) throttle lifter fittings that are part of the plate set (part 18 parts manual). I asked Allenchrome to chrome plate them but apparently they can't do them. >:(
Any recommendations as to where I could get these two items sorted? Yours look nice and shiny!

I had mine done many moons ago and can't remember where. I can remember they were about £50.
You will need to find a firm that chromes alloy. A lot of places stopped chroming alloy years ago, like in the 80's everyone did black chrome but, can't find anyone that does that anymore.

Cheers Graham, I'll investigate further then! :)

They look great Mick.

Cheers Julie, they look a lot better than they did that's for sure. I can now start to put the carbs back together again. I have one set of floats that has a leak but apart from that and gaskets, after a good clean everything else seem fine!

Just looking at the carburettor gasket kits on DS website, he does a Honda one and an aftermarket set at nearly half the price of the Honda set, anyone used the aftermarket one? They ok? This is just the o rings and bowl gaskets. Cheers :)

Sorted!

It was Allenchrome who did them after all. At first they said over the phone that they couldn't do them but I called in on my way home after a weekend in York to collect my zinc plated parts and spoke to a bloke called Dave who after examining them again said he would have a go at doing them and post them back to me. I was expecting to wait ages for them but I was very surprised to get them back after only 4 days! Cost was £35 inc postage . They have always been pretty efficient but that was very quick! I suppose they had already had them for 5 weeks though with the rest of the stuff I sent for zinc plating! :o
