Honda Tech Spec says 14L and 4L reserve.
Does this mean 10L before I hit reserve and then I have 4L left i.e. is 14L the TOTAL capacity?

Yes.the most I have ever put in was 13,98 l8tr
I was running on reserves

Just out of interest what mileage does anyone get before hitting reserve roughly.
I get around 95 miles which would indicate 44mpg by my maths

I get about 110

Interesting I will measure mine again from full to res a bit more carefully

I get just over 80miles before reserve normally. It drives me mad its just not far enough.
-
Not sure what I get out of mine but definitely get well over 80, nearer the 100 I expect. This is on a CB550 but with a CB500 tank fitted.

I thought they had the same size tank. Don't tell me the 550 one is bigger and I still get less to the gallon then everyone else.

I’ve never made it to reserve yet, but the furthest I’ve done between fill ups is 92 miles.
As for consumption, I’m averaging 10 miles to the litre, so about 45 mpg.

I got to 124 miles and still wasn't on reserve on my CB400/4 and they have very small tanks. I must have been riding sensibly so would have been when running in after engine rebuild 🙂🙂🙂

The smallish capacity/highish fuel consumption is a problem now. So many petrol stations have closed. Figures from 5 years ago (best I could find quickly) said 37000 in 1970 and about 9000 now. Got caught out on A5 in north Wales where there seemed to be about 50 miles with no station, just lots of closed ones.

It varied a lot on my 500/4 sidecar outfit, but usually mileage from a tankfull before reserve was between 85 and 100 miles roughly but that could sometimes be carrying a fair load. I used to get better mileage on motorways and even a decade ago my regular route to a mates house was 70 miles between petrol stations and a 40 mile round trip to work with the knowledge that if I hit reserve before I was 10 miles out from work I had better either turn back to fill up or risk running on vapour or push it on the way back to work. I took to carrying a spare gallon in the sidecar. Best on fuel was my cb550k3, that got from Fort William across the A9 then down past Glasgow and I think not very far from Whitchurch on a tankfull on one occasion, lovely ride, almost no traffic til Glasgow, then free again in a few miles. Used every day the k3 was awesome in that respect. After a few years sat idle it was a nightmare to get the thing running right.
