Post by: Golfcarmad on January 06, 2019, 01:20:15 PM
Stripped engine down to crankshaft etc.housing that kickstart shaft sits inside is broken in half.hence why no Kickstarter on bike when bought.can rebuild without, however just thought I would ask if anyone had lower case available?
Also obvious engine rebuilt after this original damage, what other bits should I replace-bearing shells etc?? Any advice n suggestions appreciated.regards Paul

Crankcases line-bored and matched so you can't mix
Only some Honda twins have them that are interchangeable

You cant fit just a lower case as they are machined as pairs,  it may be easier to get a complete engine than just crankcases but either will not be cheap.

Not advisable, big hole will let all the oil out 😀😁😀 unless you do a blanking plate bodge.

I once used an earlier 400 Dream side case on a later Superdream motor. The earlier engine had a kickstart but the latter didn't. Cleaned up and degreased the hole in the case and used a 2p coin from memory plus araldite to blank it. Had no issues of oil leak.... Was a bodge though as Julie says but a race motor not to look pretty ;)

Hi GofCarMad

Are you in a hurry or is it a slow rebuild? I've got some crankcases in my garage somewhere that I believe would just need a good clean and paint. It might take me a couple of weeks to find and check over if you can wait that long.

Hi everyone, firstly if I rebuild I simply mean no Kickstarter, the shaft, seal etc is in situ.
I am planning on rebuilding now,but having stripped her down,if new cases became available I might just do it all again.in fact that offer helps.i think I will rebuild now with current bearings n shells etc.get her up and running.if new cases came along,do a rebuild and replace everything, maybe even for for reborn/big bore. Thanks everyone and no hurry Paul but very interested.
