CB350/400 / CB400F only running on 2 cylinders.
« on: January 04, 2019, 04:41:43 PM »
Hi and Happy New Year Folks.

Im looking for a bit of advice and guidance. Bearing in mind that as far as mechanics go I would class myself as a novice, so here I go :(
I tried to start my bike (400F) the other day with no joy, the battery was a bit low so  put it on charge. I tried again this morning and still no joy, i removed all the plugs and cleaned them as they were a bit sooty and tried again. The bike started but was only running very roughly on 2 cylinders. I deduced this by touching the pipes and the 2 centre pipes were cold to the touch unlike the outer ones which were red hot. I checked the coils and one was warm and the other cold, so I am thinking that this may be the issue. Should I buy a new ignition coil or do I need to check elswhere? is there a simple diagnostic to confirm that the coil is indeed us?
Also just as a  side note, I noticed after running the bike that quite a lot of fuel was leaking from the carbs. Other than that everything is hunky dory  :)

CB350/400 / Bike Security
« on: October 10, 2018, 10:38:29 AM »
Hi,

I am in the process of renewing my insurance and do not declare any security devices on my insurance as the ones I have are not listed on the comparison sites.
At the moment I use a Aldi special (very heavy duty chain/lock) when it is parked up in the shed and when I am out and about I have a cheap, but substantial, cable lock which is easy to carry in a large pocket. So it may be sensible for me to invest in a recognised product to hopefully reduce my premium.
On that note, I was wondering what you guys use to lock your pride and joy up with and would you recommend it to others?

Regards to all,

Andy

Hi,
A big thank you to Nurse Julie for helping me with registering. I am Andy from Ipswich and the proud owner of a 1976 CB400/4.
I bought the bike last year as a retirement treat for myself and look forward to many years of enjoyment riding it.
The bike is in pretty good shape although since I have had it I have replaced the fuel tap, tank rubbers and grips. The RH side panel needed repairing which was done by a local guy called Brian Greenfield who is a recommended plastic welder. I am in the process of painting them and needed to find a template for the stickers which led me to your site. I now have this information, thanks to you guys, and will be able to continue with the project.
