CB500/550 / Carbs wet plugs on startup
« on: February 08, 2017, 04:00:27 PM »
Hello, me again got the 550 running but one problem on startup with chock plugs 1&2 get wet change them out and bike then runs fine. I have cleaned carbs and replaced all rubbers with vitriol ones bench set slides and turned mix out from stop 1 full turn. There is no over flow so I'm assuming the flots are set ok! Thanks for any suggestions that could help. Clive

CB500/550 / Gear change hard
« on: January 24, 2017, 02:15:33 PM »
Hi people's, after total ground up rebuild the bike is ready for mot, the problem I have is it is very hard to change out of first when engine is running the clutch is adjusted as per manual I have put new Barnet plates and springs in and am running the motor in using 15w-40 mineral oil. I am down to replacing the cable as this is near its limit maybe an eighth of an inch adjustment at lever a quarter at clutch, any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks Clive

CB500/550 / Blip the throttle and she keeps on revving
« on: December 06, 2016, 12:34:32 PM »
Hi all, it's me again D the bike is now firing on all four new plug, points, carbs stripped and rebuilt and bench set as p r forum and all gone over twice to eliminate possable cockups! So here we go on cold start there is a phisst back throug #4 carb this gets less as bike warms but the main concern is that when I blip the throttle the bike keeps high revving (around 3k) until I press down on the 4 large brass cover caps. I have lubricated all external moving parts, but this has not helped. Ideas please before I go for an expensive option like a refurb set.

CB500/550 / Timing
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:32:45 PM »
Well I've got new point and backing plate adv-ret good but no matter what I try I cannot get it to line up on 1-4 so can't do 2-3. on full advance I am falling about 3mm short of the F Mark. So I refer to the manual and it says disconect the capacitor to static time? I have followed these instructions but still can only get same results .
The backing plate has no slack in it and on full clockwise I can only get the top screw in.
What Am I missing?

P.S any advice please explain in terms a 5 year old would understand!!!!  :-\ :( ;D
