CB500/550 / CB550F Carbs
« on: April 06, 2014, 11:36:58 PM »
Striped down the carbs today on my 1976 CB550F, the plan is to get them ultrasonic cleaned and then the challenge of rebuilding!!!!!

I notice a few issues already!!
So the basic carb rebuild kit isn't going to be enough!!

Looks like I need new.
floats x 4No.

The spring clip that sits below the float (name?) 2No looks correct, 1No looks to be from a different carb? and one is missing.
Need to buy 2No (pictured)

Also the holder that keeps this spring clip in place one is missing.
Need to buy 1No (pictured)

So now that the carbs are strip this far, I only want to do this job once, all advice is welcomed.

CB500/550 / Spacers.
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:02:41 PM »

This one will be easy!

Couple of weeks ago I took off the rear rear mudguard and bits & bobs for cleaning reasons, I've got what looks to be two M8 spacer washers to go somewhere?

Maybe some of those who don't normally answer the questions will have a go at the one?

New Member Introductions / New CB550 owner.

Well I am new to this site but have been hanging around for while, my name is DamianC from Co Armagh, N Ireland. (first post was about a 750f2)
I've own a dozen or so bikes over the years, my teens & early twenties was all Honda's 50cc, 80cc, a few 125cc and a 250VT sold that got married as you do! I was without two wheels for about 5 or 6 years until I need transport to & from work a wee Suzuki GP125 fill the need. I run a Harley in my 30's and 40's (gone) a 59 Triumph (gone) all I have now in a girder forked 1947 BSA M20 a 1972 SWB R60/5 and now a good old CB550!!
I'd been searching for a 550 or 750 for about 6 months, some ones I'd looked at suited my pocket but I didn't think I was up-to a complete rebuild or some of my finds unfortunately at the time I couldn't afford.
After running a wanted advert on Gumtree for about 3 months a Belfast man got I touch said he had a Honda 1976 CB550F that might be of interest. He'd owned it for about 20years but parked the CB in 2000 after Joey Dunlop lost his life racing. It's had three owners last time it was taxed was 1981 it still got its original Belfast number plate (MOI) and green tax book.
To me the CB looks not too bad and fairly original bar the black paint job changed sometimes in the 80's it should be blue.
I don't know much about restoring, repairing or building motorbikes but I am looking forward to learning. The bike doesn't run, but the previous owner promised me it will she needs a battery, carb clean, and a good service. we'll see!!!!!!!
I am planning to keep the found in a shed look and getting her back on the road this summer, next winter I'll look at taking on a strip down rebuild if I've gained enough experience.

Keep it between the hedges!

CB750 / Maybe buying a CB750 need advice
« on: December 22, 2013, 03:02:38 PM »
I'm new here so it's my first post and it's a question. I will also introduce myself later today, but before I plunge into the world of SOHC!

I'm thinking of adding this CB750 to my small stable.

It's a 1977 F2, not the best looking SOHC but it's worth saving from the breakers!!

Only one owner with 42000 miles on the clock, the last time it was on the roads was 1999. It's never had a V5 issued, the owner has the original green log book. The CB was bought locally new and still retains it's original Co Armagh (N Ireland) number plate.

I realise it's going to cost £££ before I can get her on the road again. Starts on a power pack and doesn't sound too bad, owner said she selects all gears ok needs a couple of disc maybe a caliper or two if I'm lucky just a rebuild kit. Front mudguard replacement, the tank, side panels and rear tail need reprinted and new badges, a closer panel for the rear seat. Engine service kit, carb rebuild kit, a battery, few new cables, a leaver the list could go on & on!!!!

I haven't made the owner an offer yet!! So judging the photos what do you think the F2 is worth and roughly how much will it cost me to get it back on the road?
