Hi All,

I have a lads cbr125 in the workshop he came off and smashed it up at the front nothing serious plastics, headlight, subframe,

so a kind soul said they would fix it. The lad spent £370 quid on bits for him to do it and left him five mouth with no job done.

It was brought to me in desperation.

I gave him half the bits back that he don't need and told him to get a couple of odd bits.

It will be on the road by the end of the week.

Happy young lad and possibly a future biker.

Tricks & Tips / Re: Clean the inside of a tank with Caustic soda

Hi Trigger,

I tend to build my own tanks, I do pressure test them but just for peace of mind, i line them.

I have had one leak i made and it made a right mess of the paint job.

Hi Trigger,

I used caustic soda but as you say, it was a new tank with flash rust and it cleaned it well.

Then i stopped the caustic from working with spirit of salts.

Then lined it with por15.

Worked very well two years later its still good to go.

And just to add when the valves are lapped in fill the crowns with petrol to see if they leak.

If not job done.  :) :)

Hi MikeM

Aluminum is soft, compared to steel and helicoils are tempered steel to stop them snapping out.

It sounds as if you are running out of options, a good ali welder or a new head, sorry to say.

Hi MikeM

What size is the hole that is stripped ?

I assume you have a 10mm hole for an 8mm helicol.

Just retread the hole to whatever size will hold, give me a shout and I will make you a stud to fit.

Hope this helps.

Hi MikeM,

I Have had stripped 6mm treads in a 650 head I made special studs.

This is how i did it, Drill stud hole to 6mm, tap tread to 7mm, take 7mm round rod and tread, turn down the bit that sticks out to 6mm and tread it, done. Or you could see if the 7mm tread will go through the exhaust clamp, 7mm nut, job done.

No Heat, No twist

Just a thought.

Works for me.

Hi MikeM,

You could take the plugs out remove rocker cover and turn the engine over BY HAND to make sure your getting oil up to the top of the engine.
