CB500/550 / Questions Questions
« on: January 24, 2011, 09:49:09 PM »
Hi All,
I have a CB550f2 in bits and want to know:-
Is fitting a 650 cam is a good idea?
What is the best electronic ignition?
Where do I get a full set of electrics (15 years in the rain)i.e. Rectifier, Regulator,Solenoid,Fuse box, Capacitor.
The electrics don't have to be original there going in a chopper.
Thanks for any help
Paul
PS
By the way the frame I built in a lot lighter then the original.

I'm in the process of chopping a cb550. The ol girl was scrap really, but I just hate to throw stuff out. If some kind person can tell me how to load pics, I have the before and up to now set of pics. just took one carb apart and the float bar is no more, just rust in the float bowl. Happy days.
It ol skool all the way for me.

Hi All,
Thanks for the information.
I now know I joined the right group.
Yoshi823 I will need 6 front bolts 125mm long x 8mm tread and 6 rear bolts 145mm long x 8mm tread (had to cut all of them off to get the barrel off), don't know if this is do-able. if it is, I can cad up a working drawing for you. And the $64000 question, how much.
Thanks for all help
Paul

Hi Bryanj,
The main 12 bolts that bolt head, barrel and case together front row are 125mm long and the back row are 145mm long. These have an 8mm tread so could use treaded stud but nice to have the right thing because there stretch bolts and waist in to about 6mm (could turn my own). There not under much load 14 to 16.6 ft lb. So I would like to buy because of ease rather then need.

Thanks for all the replies gents, its good to have so much support.
Steve I might just be after some of them bits.
Got the engine stripped and inside don't look to bad, seen a lot worse.
Snapped 6 out of 12 head bolts and now see you can't buy them, sh8t more work, unless you gents know different.
Tried to post some pics but it won't let me the files are to big.
