Title: OUT AND ABOUT 2023
Post by: Nurse Julie on January 01, 2023, 01:52:47 PM
Happy New Year everyone.
Managed a few very pleasant hours out on the winter hacks today. More than one layer of clothing required but no rain gear needed 😂😂😂 Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe 2023.

There were about only about 15 bikes in total when we arrived. 9 of them left in 1 group then it looked very empty. A few were coming down the road when we left though. Not many hardy bikers left these days, or they are worried about getting their bikes dirty 😂😂😉😂

Season Greetings!  8)
I'd only be worried about the road salt, washing that brine off upon returning home...  ???

The roads were mainly wet around here Phil. But, we had such a deluge of rain here yesterday it washed all the salt and mud off of the roads so they weren't too bad.

A few bikes out near me today...it's chilly and my Volvo has two wheels (if viewedfrom the side ...). On the plus side, I'm only a few miles from I AM Duxford so was there today
to view the Hurricane exhibition- 7 of the world's  14 flying planes in one (large) room.

Dead jealous would have really loved to see the Hurricane exhibition as I am a big fan of the Hurricane, but alas is a bit far for us to go.

I've a bicycle with single sided front fork that usually causes quite a bit of consternation and draws comments when I'm stopped around others.
Often asked "aren't you afraid it's going to fall off?" To which I reply "I'm saving up to buy the other half" that doesn't shake them all off though, one with more in depth enquiry I pointed out that all cars have their wheels mounted on one side, he puzzles about it and replied " Aaaaah! but they've got a wheel on the other side though" satisfied with that he departed, no flies on that fella  ;D

We once went down to Duxford for a couple of days in 2010, stayed at the Duxford lodge, had a great time, you could probably spend longer there as there is so much to see.
Here's me doing a Biggles impression.

For those of you that are into old planes, I communicate regularly via e-mail, with a chap called Lindsay Lees who is building a replica of a Stockwith Strutter. He also happens to have a 400/4 which is how we got to know each other.
Here's a link to the story, there is also another very good Sunday Times article about it but I can't fathom out how to copy and paste the link.

Great photos. I haven't been to Old Warden for years. Lovely old aircraft.
The DH88 Comet Racer GACSS in your photo was rebuilt to airworthy standards some years ago. My great-uncle, Hector (Bob) Roberts, worked in the drawing office for De Havilland and eventually British Aerospace so he drew up the plans that weren't available any more to enable the rebuild.

Great photos of Old Warden..the early biplanes  are fabulous..and the smell of engines/ oil in the working hangers is really pleasant. It's the same in hanger 2 in Duxford where are lot of the flying planes are stored. ..I haven't been to Great Warden for ages but I feel another trip coming up.

The Sopwith build is pretty special too...23 years and countless build hours, plus a stringent approval process - it puts bike builds into the 'straightforward and cheap' category!

I might also add, Oscar Wilde's quote “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness"

Despite what Oscar Wilde says my 500 will end up Black not remain the bronze colour it is (when funds permit) - I think it makes the 500 look more retro in a good way as does the old style front number plate.

When I had my first 500 Gold I always wanted black, so I changed the colour, then I preferred the gold after a bit, then went back to black (I know a song about that  ;D ) and then I wanted gold again. I always fancied Candy Jade Green as well after buying a side panel in the colour but never fancied the brown at all.

It was a Yoshi sounded brilliant, it replaced a Campbell Geometrics race reverse cone mega exhaust which sounded even better  ;D but was insanely loud. Also had a Yoshi cam plus a few other mods - Dresda swingarm, Konis, Rickman rear sets, open bellmouths, 750 tank, 2-4 style seat. Should never have sold it  :(

Sunny today, half day off work (..to look after the kids...) so I took the opportunity to try to start my old Triumph 500, as it is being sold but I've been struggling to start it, so I haven't been happy showing i t to a prospective vendor. Anyway, after stripping and cleaning the Amal carb I still couldn't get fuel flow from the tickler (choke, for you youngsters), but eventually the wretched thing started (still no visible fuel at the tickler), so I leapt aboard and shot off around my test loop - 1 mile of roads around the village- got t the furthest away point and ..... stopped. So after a but if fiddling it dawned on me to open the fuel tank and look inside....of course, some Muppet drained it at the end of the summer to put petrol in an outboard engine. So after a nice push to the village garage for fuel I found that the tickler does still work and the bike is as good as ever, it just likes to have enough to drink! If it stays bright tomorrow I'll go out again and take a picture too.

I know, I haven’t ever forgotten to check before!

I had a friend years ago whose zxr400 ‘broke down’. She was in tears on the phone and we tried to talk her through problem solving, including lack of fuel and turning to reserve, which she swore she had. She finally came home on a large breakdown truck… at which point we could all see as the lorry pulled in that the rather large and obvious fuel/reserve tap hadn’t been turned to reserve. We had told her about it, but even the AA man hadn’t checked it!

Out and about today for a scootch in the ‘balmy’ 14 degrees, clear skies and bright sunshine. What a fab day. I vaguely covered the excuse to go and play out with having to to Halfraud’s to get some anti seize for the callipers on the van.

Got a sticky tight front!

Anyway, my 45 mile round trip to Wells, via Godney, Cheddar and associated. Fags stops en route was fab! Wells is only 9 miles from ours
Think I might have used the last half an hour out of my rear tyre, so that’s it before I start to do the shock n swing arm swap for this years jaunt.

Few out at the gorge and a few on the roads but surprisingly quiet really. A good soul restorative ride(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230219/fb99576d5181b51d6315398d39b4df37.jpg)

Graham went out on the 750 K6 yesterday, supposedly to pop 1 mile up the road to fill her with fuel. 2½ hours and 100 miles later, he found his way home 😂😂😂😂. Like where you are Roo, the weather was stunning here yesterday and today, so I'm pleased he got out. I'm on decorating duties at the moment, so was confined to barracks 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oosh, decorating!I don’t do decorating, that’s a pink job.
When you’ve finished you then have to start and do it all again!
Sod that for job satisfaction!
Don’t mind a bit of top coat ‘gloss action’ though, strangely

What must have happened Julie is that several of the gas stations only had diesel so Graham had to keep searching

That and decorating’s  a crap job and a fate worse than a fate  worse than death he’d have stayed out if it was wet, I would have

I’ve been hiding from the salt for the last few weeks, however it rained on Saturday and dried up again on Sunday. We too are decorating, and realised yesterday that we needed fine sanding paper, we only had the chunky stuff.

The trading estate where B&Q is can be a nightmare to get in and out of at the weekend, so it would be daft not to go on a bike. The Harley was nearest the garage door, I wheeled it out and saw the hanging wire from the unfinished indicator repair I’d forgotten all about. Next up was the CL450, despite not being on a trickle charger all winter, there is no drain from an alarm or anything so hi tech, and with a bit of coaxing it burst into life!

My first ride of 2023, it put a smile on my face as I nipped through the Sunday traffic.  :)

Nice wobble up to Shepton Mallet this morning in the Baltic conditions to go to the Bristol Classic Bike Show at the showground there. Hooked up with Tim, (Multiman) and Matt Harrington for a brew, a  moan and a wheeze and to look at some lovely machinery. There was a chap ther selling Honda stuff called 'On All Fours', think Ive seen him on the net advertising, selling pattern calipers (£150) and had variouse bits and bobs including a replica full system for the 400F at a eye watering £852!!!

Speacial show price of £800.....................................Robber! ;D
And he wouldn't take cards, wondered if he'd done a show before, who walks round with £850 folded up in their pocket? ;D

Some lovely kit there and some cracking people as ever. Several coffees 'supped', ciggies smoked and some over priced food scoffed. All with the backdrop of bikes, bikes and more bikes, the obligatory throng of tyre kickers and twist grip tweakers, small terriers and no kids......Woohoo!................
A good day out and a quick 'thrape' home on the old girl to stretch her legs and now into the shed for some fiddling.........Great Sunday all round then ;) :) :D

I think his main thought is Mr Vat man not walking around with part of that wedge in his pocket! Maybe so but surely as a business man, as you say Roo, he must appreciate punters don't carry lots of dosh. Surely lost more business than a bit of tax fiddled!

Probably more the cost of the machine and Shepton is a crap reception area, go regularly at stupid oclock to collect tonic water from the cider factory

I'm back after a van crash, covid, being punted across a roundabout and throwing my back out. I can finally get back on the bike :) don't waist a large wedge on paying for physio it turns out throwing yourself down the stairs works quite well  ;D
So we'll in fact I decided to use the Guzzi after tinkering with it for a couple hours and it still not starting I dragged the trusty Honda out and unsurprisingly it fired up almost with out hesitation. 62miles later and with my dad not to far behind on my Pegaso we stopped to look at a Husky 401. They must be good value as my dad paid for one there and then so expecting delivery next Friday. Anyone that has ever met him will know just how tight he is 🤣

Julie, for the first time in years, I've had three close encounters with birds of prey in as many weeks!

Living on the edge of Thetford Forest, I'm always on the lookout for wildlife, particularly in the early morning. However, on each occasion the birds have dived down on me out of hedgerows and, at the last minute as I ducked changed course and flown over my head. My wife thinks that it might be due to the fluorescent vest that I wear attracting their attention, though I've worn it for a few years now without incident.

I will make it to Lincolnshire one day.
I went to work on the Guzzi Friday.62 miles each way rain, filtering through traffic and deep flooding on the way back.
My gear is still dripping and my backs on fire but sod it I'm doing it again Tuesday. Loved every second.

Spent today cleaning the mud and oil of the bike and making up a new rocker cover gasket, glueing plastic panels together and finding a crack in the exhaust Y section.
So all in all a good day for the Guzzi.  ;D

Yep ... a Dyna ... I've had a few before and like them - I sold the Laverda as I just couldn't get on with the RH gear change ( I suspect if an only bike it would be fine) ... made a tidy profit on it though !!

Oddly enough the bloke I bought my 400 from had a J plated Harley Sportster with lots of added bling. Nearest I've ever ridden to a Harley  was a hired Virago in Crete. I loved the Ape Hangers and easy riding.

Then again I like the old film Easy Rider with Peter Fonda etc - so cool.

Due to frustration of bad weather yesterday and raving  tooth ache I decided to go for a wobble about on shagged tyres tyres and go shopping on the VFR. Due to come off the road for the back end swap and new exhaust system. Bit miffed as this one’s only done 170k!

168400 ish.
The last clocks exploded upon impact when a gentle get off ensued when the front didn’t like a puddle of diesel and water on the French motorway near Troyes 10 or so years ago. It had about 99k on it then and she’s showing 69 and change now and they were brand new when fitted back in 2014.

Best bike I’ve ever had, just prepping the rear hub, swingarm and gubbins now ready to get her in the air and some new bits fitted.
I have however, just found out that the cartridge front parts for the forks are £680……….kin el!
That’s not happening this year then

''kin spiders Roo. That is a user isn't it. When I read the initial post I saw 170K as 17 (no glasses) and thought fair enough to have a moan on exhaust life.

Only VFR I have ridden was the first gear driven cam model which they over engineered after chocolate cam VF model. That was impressive even then.

Hi Dave,

No it's a Misano Evo kit which is pretty much all I could find for sale, Hadn't thought of Manxton tbh, that might be a cheaper op. The Misano bits are brilliant but I don't have that sort of money available this year with the new fishery hopefully opening later in the summer but that 's a good shout.

I've got a new set of boots to buy for her yet too, doesnt it add up? :o

Looks like you've all been out enjoying the better weather, so as we have had a rare week of great sunshine, it was time to give the 550 its first shakedown run.  Only about 50 miles but a cracking run nevertheless.  First impressions are very favourable - forks seem a bit firm with 7.5 weight Putoline oil and pulls well with just a slight hesitation if you ask for too much in too high a gear but revs freely up to 8k.  Didn't go any higher than that as I was catching Les too quickly on his Forza.

Should have my own new 350 Forza sometime next week.

Nice one Ian! Great weather we were on Grandkids duty here. Took the 750 out for its first shake down yesterday, seemed to run quite well maybe not quite the pulling power on the steep hills, returned to base and had a cold header pipe on number 2. Plug changed today for a Denso fired up and running great. Bloody duff NGK! Not that unusual I don’t suppose.

The very first time I clapped eyes on the Forza I was impressed - then Les let me have a go on his and I felt it was the way to go after all of those years of GoldWings.  It's never going to compete I know but should be able to take me on a few more adventures before I curl me toes up!  The new version has a slightly bigger engine and electric screen and was not far off the price I got back for my 'Wing after 20 years.  The under seat storage is unbelievable although I have had a small top box fitted.
Should be arriving home next week so will post a few pics for anyone interested.  One small thing to come to terms with is not pulling the clutch in when coming to a halt - that's the rear brake which nearly stands it on its nose!

Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2023
Post by: Orcade-Ian on April 21, 2023, 09:43:07 PM
You are correct Andy,
There was a Silverwing based on the trusty CX500 with a GL1100 fairing and small panniers but the big H used the name again for that lovely scoot in the pic.  I think it may have been made to compete with the Bergman from Suzuki.  I had a go on a Bergman years ago and was impressed back then, so it must have been in the back of my mind for all those years before I took the plunge to swap the 'Wing for a 350 Forza - we'll see if I've made the wrong decision!

That’s right Andy, that is the newer model Silverwing which superceded the GL650 wing.

At a recent meet of the Scottish Classic M/c Club, the "Wee Smokey " at Meadowbank Inn, Arbroath.

Old Hondas were the theme for this one and there was a wide range of models there, inc. 3 400 fours and a 750.

I think there was an old Cub somewhere under the dolphin fairing in the first photo! A real homebuilt horror. 😖

The little monkey bike was interesting, wouldn't ride one on the road though, you're asking to get hit as you're so low to the ground, very easy to miss and car drivers don't need much of an excuse.

Handy for a camp site though or just for fun on a beach etc.

400F2 was nice, why spoil what looks to be an original looking bike by using socket bolts on the bottom yoke?

I'd have liked to have walked round all those and relive memories though.

Hello all,

Just a quick point,

I have had more deer running out of hedges onto the road at dusk so far this year than at any time,

So when your out, be careful, be it on 2,4 or however many wheels you have,

So, after a long four month overhaul I finally got the VFR800FiX back on the road yesterday. Lots of work done and money spent to bring what is a now a 24 year old bike back into the modern world with updated electrics, new rear shock and front springs, new printed circuit below the dash, stainless fasteners and a rear hugger. A whole day was spent with a clay block to freshen up the paintwork.

Honda built the VFR’s to such amazingly high standards you can understand why they lost money on them! I know it doesn’t have a single overhead cam (it actually has four and they are gear driven) but at 24 years old even these are now becoming a bit of a classic!

I took it for a shakedown run yesterday to the RAF Fighter Command No.11 Group Bunker in Uxbridge where I am a volunteer tour guide (this is the bunker where the Battle of Britain was controlled from in the South East). All went well so off out for a good ride today whilst the sun shines 8)

Well in Fave, she looks fab.
Put a set of part worn boots on mine at the weekend while convalescing and went for a wobble today to trickle. A good 90mile round trip

Got all the bits painted, lacquered and prepped go the rear end swap happening as soon as the new bench turns up at my pals. Looking forward to having a new rear shock, this is that tired now it tracks the lines in the road making slower corners a bit bonkers. Fast sweepers not an issue but not confidence inspiring in the slightest.

She’ll be off the road this winter to do what you’ve done as after 173k she’s due some love bless her. Just saving up  for fork cartridges

What a day,
Lovely morning, all 3 bikes checked, washed with cleaned,
Went for a ride on the Yam,

6 miles out, got to an area just had  a storm, roads sodden,

By the time I got home, bike was grubby again,

4.30pm,off to Gloucester airport for bikers night, took CB200,
after 20 odd miles, Gloucester has had a rain storm, so mucky again,

Pictures, including a nice Black Bomber

Apologies for all the pics but TBH it's the pics you want to see more than anything.

Meet night at the Swettenham Arms near Jodrell Bank, Cheshire. Every Thursday if you want to pop along.

Some nice bikes there tonight, unusually for me I decided to take some pics. Some were very interesting and I got some contacts for spare parts, a good CB550F seat anyone? LMAO, I've already earmarked this for Sesman, knew he was after one and as soon as I heard he had one I thought of Phil straight away. PM me Phil for his phone number.

I freely admit I do tend to only take pics of Hondas but any that took my fancy were also added including some British iron which frankly does nothing for me but I do like to see good workmanship etc.

Pics of the attendance and the number of bikes, far more than I could get in TBH.

(https://i.postimg.cc/G2Z1V1mQ/IMG-3202.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/XGchBmFG)

(https://i.postimg.cc/vTfddS1d/IMG-3204.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/RJSY7dQP)

So onto the bike pics, the CB550F Cafe racer was the owner of the spare seat. Lots of things wrong with it, bought it like that. He also has another 550 cafe at home.

(https://i.postimg.cc/ZRngJsMM/IMG-3191.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/5Ycp3g1B)

(https://i.postimg.cc/yxSbZgBh/IMG-3193.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/8fN48C7s)

Now an odd one, a genuine UK 750K2, bought from a mate who had owned it for 40 years and it was languishing in a shed, when he finally convinced him to sell it 5 years ago the seller said "I hope you don't expect to get this cheap, I'm firm at £500". He drove home, got the money, hired a van and bought it before he could change his mind.

Side panels didn't look right to me and he thinks they are off a much earlier model, possibly a K0. Note the really odd exhaust baffles, it was very quiet when running.

(https://i.postimg.cc/3WQY4HMR/IMG-3211.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/bSgKWWwc)

A couple of wings. One really odd with straight through pipes, the blue one was lovely.

One for Roo.

A exceptional H2 Kwack 750.

Not seen this make before.

(https://i.postimg.cc/Z5ZJJZFs/IMG-3199.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/ZCfGLGQ6)

A very nice Norton Commando 850, made me laugh to see the Electric Starter advertising, the one behind it was really nice as well.

(https://i.postimg.cc/J7k8Jtpd/IMG-3206.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/w3gnYx8h)

A really nice and tidy BSA with a nickel frame, sounded really nice.

Just remembered the 750 owner saying he'd had to spend £750 on it to get it to look like it does at present, so £1250 for a 750K2, not a bad deal that.

Shame the Spondon Laverda Jota wasn't there that night, only ever seen it once but this was only the 2nd meet I've attended this year so maybe next week. I may be doing the engine on the 550 at some point in the future, sounds pretty bad TBH, lots of upper end noise and the primary chain is banging away on tickover. He said he was going to sell the bike as he wanted a quieter engine, so rather than fix the existing engine he'd sooner sell and buy another, very odd way of looking at it.
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2023
Post by: andy120t on May 26, 2023, 05:56:51 PM
Any idea what the thing behind the Laverda is? Brake calipers look the same as my 1986 Gsxr750, as do the forks ( with the anti-dive removed from opposite the calipers and a blanking plate fitted).

Frame headstock looks as if it's a custom frame.
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2023

I visited the Bike Shed Show in Shadwell last night and enjoyed one £6.50 can of craft IPA whilst I looked around the various stands. I know custom (or 'Shed' as the new term is now) builds are not everyone's cup of tea but the question of build quality and imagination that goes into building these bikes is awesome. Not sure though how many of the finished bikes see the road or sit in living rooms as works of art. Best motorcycle show I have visited for years though.

I took this pic in 2016 of the Honda engine when we visited Sammy Millers Museum......I only ever thought of Sammy as being a Trials Rider (silly me) but he had cups and trophies for EVERYTHING in biking under the sun ! Amazing bloke......instead of all the latest crap on TV somebody should make a programme charting all that Sammy has achieved......I'd pay good money to see that.

Well took the Honda out for a spin, it went great however I did not, I have recently been diagnosed with Carpal tunnel syndrome by a physio and have been woken up at night with pains in my hands, pins and needles and a burning sensation in my hands.
I thought nothing of it but after about a mile on the bike my throttle hand was really painful so much so that I had to return home, after the physios referal I got in touch with my doctors who have managed to find me an appoinment for June so hopefully I can get something sorted.

My wife suffers with that and really suffers in cold weather if she doesn't wear gloves. I used to work with a guy who also suffered with it. He said the vibration through the handlebars of his bike (MT09) made it worse bringing the symptoms on after only a few miles. He was advised by another biker to put fishing weights in the ends of the handlebars to deaden the vibes and it vastly improved. It obviously didn't cure it but he could ride for much longer before the pain set in.
Hope you get it sorted soon👍

Never connected that about cold weather but yes I also have to wear gloves all the time.

SWMBO suffered from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as a young typist essentially a RSI problem from using the old manual typewriters - her 120 wpm speed must have made it worse. On a bad day she would loose the use of her right arm. Luckily the firm she worked for  gave free BUPA cover as a staff perk. Instead of going onto a 2 year waiting list after diagnosis the operation was done within a fortnight. Arm in a sling for a few weeks - no problem since.

Out and about in Montenegro. Hired a Kymco 125 for the duration of our stay, the perfect scooter for around this country. Not sure if we have any forum members living here but, if we do, you certainly do live in a stunning country.

Another bike meet at Swettenham last night. Attendance was high, possibly higher than last week and that was the best I've seen.

Saw a few more interesting bikes so I thought you appreciate seeing some of them.

Start with the Hondas as usual and then go on to other makes that I thought good enough to take pics of.

A nice 750F2, for sale for £2900 IIRC

(https://i.postimg.cc/MK4zjXsp/IMG-3250.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/WhMBBpLB)

And the others, first off a pair of Turbo Charged Z1000s,

And it's predecessor.

Staying on Kwacks, been a while since I've seen one of these

Moving onto Yams.

Some nice bikes there. From the cam end-caps the Suzuki looks like a 4 cylinder GS of some sort. Frame custom made. Swing arm has an unusual shock mount too....and the exhaust looks loud.

Both Laverdas  look amazing....and the top box on the BSA is beyond words...expect to see it in the next Wallace and Gromit film!

I got to chatting with the BSA rider, it's a 1954 frame but the engine blew up and it was replaced with an A10 engine, means nothing to me, I know nothing about British bikes, they never interested me so I didn't bother to learn, there was a sad story with the bike though, the previous owner was killed recently in a diving accident, only 59. He's the one that built it and was president of the BSA owners club I believe.

Some cracking bikes there Ken! I’m sure that top box on that BSA has got “Bread” on it somewhere.🤣 Sad about the guy that built it! Very impressed that there doesn’t seem to be any oil on the ground underneath, which is a trade mark of the old brits normally.

Cheers

Dennis

If you have the op, its only a 20 min day surgery thing but you won't be riding this summer, I guarentee it. I had mine done on the left hand anout 4 years ago and it was really sore for about 6 months and definitely couldnt ride with it, I could barely get a glove on. No swelling, just sore to the bone!
If you're going to have it done, and I strongly advise you do, get it done in september if you can, then you have all winter to recover. I made the mistake of going fishing when recovering from mine and managed to catch my bandage on fire when lighting the gaz stove in my bivvy. Instinctivly, I slapped it out with my right hand................nearly pased out it was so painful. My pal nearly wet himself laughing! I would have had it been him mind, it's the law :D

On a brighter note, do get it done though, the difference is incredible. ;) :)

Ken, some ace bikes there, not keen on the Kwacks but never was but the rest are awesome,. Loving the mint two strokes there and the Kettle etc. That RS250 peeking out from behind that mars bar 350 looks really fit. Nice Jap spec TZR250 too, utter minter! As for the Lav's, sheer dribbleworthy the pair of them. What ace looking machines they are and the frame on the spondon is to die for. Cheers mate.

It wasn’t my first choice but a puncture to my Triumph meant I rode just shy of 200 miles on the K7 today, of which 140 miles were with Mrs C as a pillion and she didn’t miss a beat (the bike, not my wife!)

It also drew plenty of attention from gentlemen of a certain age on our stops. I didn’t get any pictures unfortunately but this was just before I put her back in the garage after the days efforts. I love this bike.

Rode over the mountains yesterday to the Albanian border. Highest point we rode over was 1624m, which I think is the highest we've ever gone on a Kymco 125 😂😂😂. Fantastic views and we could see Corfu in the distance. If anyone gets the chance to ride along Lake Scutari, or Lake Skadar as its also known, do it, it's great. Loads of organised motorbike tours here, we've seen riders from most of the European countries. All have panniers the size of a small cottages and are all dressed up in their full bike gear, sweating their nuts off and there's myself and Trig in shorts and T shirts 😁😁😁😁. Great fun.

Na, I think I'll stick with the bike gear when abroad, dont care how hot it is. You'll never catch me wearing shorts and a t shirt on any form of motorcycle, utter lunacy in my book, dont care how long the pilot has been  riding bikes. Sadly the phrase "It wont happen to me, I'm dead careful" means nothing. Besides, that's why Gortex is so good fpr bike kit, you dont sweat in it and is perfect for riding abroad offering max protection and keeping you cool.

Just got back from a few days in the Sporades Islands (Athens turn right).
More bikes than cars, vast majority twist and go 125s.
2 Harleys, a GS, one sport bike of some sort and Rocket 3 lumbering about.
80% of locals don't wear helmets or any safety gear at all.
Loads of bike hire for tourists 75% of whom do wear helmets but no other safety gear.
Saw a mum with two young kids on the back hanging on, 8-12 ish years olds.
Best luggage carrying 125 scooter was a bloke who turned up at a cafe with 2 full 13kg gas bottles between his legs, then left with 4 empties!

No idea where we are but it's up near the Croatian and Bosnian borders.
Followed what we thought was a sign post to somewhere but, as most things are written in Russian, our guess must have been wrong, it was sort of a farm track, but a very rough one and led up to another mountain range in the middle of nowhere 😂😂😂. Stunning scenery and so quiet.

😂 😂 😂 😂 It was all part of Russia at one time
Some things are written in Russian, others are written in Montenegran and then when you get near a border, say, Albania in the south, or Bosnia in the north, the language changes again, no wonder we get lost. Luckily, for the residents of all these countries that have a different language, Russian is like the default language, so they can communicate with each other. We understand none of them though 🤣🤣🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Paul, the currency is still a bit weird, in Montenegro they use Euros, even though they are not part of the EU and down the road in Albania, they use the Lek.

Yes, some of the mountain roads are like our A roads but we don't tend to go on them very much. There are even bus stops on the high peaks 😂😂😂.
We tend to use the equivalent of UK B roads, single lane with tarmac or concrete, C roads which are single lane, very rutted with no man made road surface and D roads that are cattle tracks that end up off piste. The little Kymco handles well on the worse of them, as max speed is about 10 mph and some of the drops down the mountain sides are truly very frightening 😱😱😱

Had a wobble down to the Haynes Museum today to meet Matt for a convivial coffee and a chew of the cud. Crap traffic but had an impromptu chuckle hitting a bump with the throttle on ‘go’ and managed to snick 3rd on the throttle with the front up about 18” up!

Made I laugh in me lid like a school boy……brilliant!

Giggled all the way home

Matt looking every bit a GP star on his, if not running quite right yet, beautiful 400.
Once fettled it’s going to be a fantastic machine. Sounded beautiful just still having wheezy performance and now a clutch (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230613/88b89086ca7a885d18538843246cc4f0.jpg)
slip bless him. I’m sure he’ll be along soon with some questions. Lovely day and just touching 27 degrees in the shade when I got home, hot in leathers but we’ll worth it.

If I didn’t need a new front boot before I left, I certainly do now

Decided to take the new Scoot for a trip South.
Been having brilliant weather like most, so Ferry and accommodation booked and it thrashed it down the day I was leaving - hey ho! I'm a big boy now and can cope with weather.  Anyway a lovely trip down via Altnaharra, Lairg, Dingwall, Achnasheen and on to my 3 nights in Lochcarron.  The adjustable screen is brilliant - up when it's raining, down when it ain't!

[attach=1]

A short rest in Portree, Skye

[attach=2]

A bit wet at Loch Glascarnoch - the water is usually overflowing the Dam

Still well impressed with it - feels like a proper bike when on the go and keeps up with (most) traffic yet still returned 96.2 mpg on the run.

John, the bike is a new 350 Honda Forza (actually 330cc) and is a belt drive CVT (like a DAF!) ABS and just 2 levers on the bars - left is rear brake (don't pull that like you would a clutch when coming to a stop!!), right is front brake.  Just start it up and twist the grip and you are away.  I've only had it a month or so and have done 1200 miles on it and have never been in the wrong gear yet!  All sorts of gizmos like USB socket and smart key ignition plus bluetooth.  Tons of space under the very comfy dual seat (enough for 2 full face lids) and I have a 35 litre top box.  There was a larger 'Smart' box option but didn't want to be locked out of everywhere if the battery was flat!  Wheels are 15 front, 14 rear - so not tiny and as I said it rides like something much larger. I've had GoldWings for 35 years and 118000 miles and this bike is impressive to say the least.  My Wife doesn't go on the bike any more so at 74, this suits me - I still have my classics for when the mood takes me.

Ian, can I ask a favour? A mate of mine has a wife recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, not sure if I've mentioned this before. Anyhow, she wants to keep riding for as long as possible but her health means he must buy a Goldwing due to the air suspension etc. He's now decided on the GL1800 after looking at some GL1500s for some time, he's going to look at one this weekend in Milford Haven but he knows next to nothing about them, what to look out for, what are the known problems etc. Can you let me know of anything he can look at specifically? I've mentioned about asking about cambelts and when they've been changed etc. The bikes done 48K and is a Y reg. This one in fact https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-GL1800a-GoldWing-Black-2001-50-000-miles-Traxxion-Dynamics-suspension-/155615671310?mkcid=1&mkevt=1&_trksid=p4429486.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&siteid=3&customid=link&campid=5336780572&toolid=20001

Let me know if you have any concerns so I can advise him, I've done a fair bit of work on the Wings over the years but only the 1000, 1100 and 1200 versions so I don't have any experience of the later models, I'd go with him but it's too far for me to travel these days without major medication.

Ken,
The 1800 has chain driven cams so no belt problems, but they still have slippers and tensioners.  Never heard of one breaking at that mileage though.  Many have done well in excess of 300k and the Yanks have some million milers!  The very first 1800s had a problem with a lower crossmember on the (alloy) frame breaking at a poor weld.  Some were re-welded under warranty but many stuck out for a complete new frame or 'buy back' from Honda.  Like all 20 year old machines, corrosion of electrical connections could be an issue (there's a lot of it!) but that one appears to be a 1 owner bike - or did I read that wrong?  Not sure what the suspension alteration was for - would be worth asking in view of your friend's Wife having problems.  I'm not in the GWOCGB (owners club) any more but it might be worth trying to find a member nearby to look at the bike - they might even know of it.

John, Factory tour looks interesting - was it a generally open day?

They don't do public tours,

Only members of aircraft supporters?,is that the correct term?

We are all members of

My twopennyworth (for what its worth) is that I used to work in the Factory where De Havilland Mosquitos were built during WWII......Downsview Canadian Forces Base, Toronto, Canada. I worked on the Twin Otter Aircraft.......building the RH Wings in the late 70's. Happy daze.

I went to work one Saturday morning at Downsview and there were dozens of Military Chevrolet Blazers and Triumph Motocycles lined up ready to be sold at Auction......none had ever been used but were considered 'obsolete' so they were cleared out of storage and sold.

Best recollection of my time there was a DH Buffalo landing one day and stopping within a few metres ! I think it was a 'Test Flight' to impress potential Customers. It certainly impressed me !

I attended the Ludgershall Bike Night near Brill, Bucks last night on the CB250RSA. There must have been 2000 bikes there with food, ice cream vans, beer tents, bands etc, a great night.
There was one outsatnding machine there,  a Honda endurance bike. It had RSC parts on it (cam, clutch and points covers). I don't know if was original or a replica, if it was a replica it was amazing :o.
The real star of the show was the dog in the BMW outfit, when he left the dog knew everybody was looking at him, very cool 8)

Looks like a replica from some of the details, but you're right Dave, a very very good build with significant attention to detail and nice to see.

As far as I  can tell, the wheels are road production wheels dressed up, the originals being likely highly exotic in very specific aluminium construction vs steel spokes on early road bikes. Also, swing arrm is production stock and not race designed. Ignition cover sticking through fairing is a give away too, slimmed and inside the cover on race.

There's also two generations of "RCB" as they are referred to. The first is a CB 750 bottom end with special barrels and narrow angle 16v twin cam head, pure factory development of 750 architecture and ultra exotic  in being able to replicate.
The second, like this one, the RCB 1000 which was based on CB900 architecture (early RCB development gave birth to CB 900 twin cam) that's much more linked to the road bike and frame of the 900 series.

Still a very good replica though, i love that whole era of endurance bikes.

Love the little sight glass tubes.

The V6 Laverda endurance racer had a similar set up Ken. You can see the sight tube on the left hand side on the seat moulding. Shane it only raced in anger once and was never properly developed especially considering Laverda were going to put it into limited production until they went bust.

Forgot to post these from last Thursday.

I only tend to take pics of bikes that I think are either rare, as in you don't see a lot of them these days, or well done or just appeal to me for some reason. I very rarely take pics of modern bikes but in this case I did as one just floated my boat for some unknown reason.

A nice Morini 500, been a long while since I've seen one of these.

(https://i.postimg.cc/tgxX93NB/IMG-3274.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/mcTxwFq9)

A reasonable 900Z1B, always had a soft spot for the 900, the styling is just perfect.

(https://i.postimg.cc/mkbR30fn/IMG-3275.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/cg5V0kJ7)

Quite a few scramblers there that night, here's a nice 250 Suzuki that just took me back.

(https://i.postimg.cc/BZgJZQ2f/IMG-3277.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/s1vkwznT)

A Yamaha XT500, remembered working on loads of those along with it's road cousin the SR500, little window on the end of the camcover so it didn't try and break your leg kicking it over.  :) :)

 (https://i.postimg.cc/85bgCtJm/IMG-3281.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/9Rzn8PBD)

Another Suzuki 250.

(https://i.postimg.cc/hvPWQTVW/IMG-3283.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/0M3HL6tc)

Staying with Suzuki, a nice condition GT550 with pipes on, sounded really nice when it fired up.

(https://i.postimg.cc/7ZC4N3dq/IMG-3278.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/G416Lybf)

A CB750, never really floated my boat but this one was in good nick.

(https://i.postimg.cc/pdztw2P7/IMG-3279.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/3y86pQ4C)

Yet another Suzuki 250 but this one an X7, did loads of work on these, remember them very fondly..

(https://i.postimg.cc/g269hYLJ/IMG-3289.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/5X1kdW3d)

My favourite of the night, never really liked old British iron but this was just fantastic, missing the speedo for some reason. A superb Sunbeam in all it's glory, love the little toolbox panniers.

(https://i.postimg.cc/Gt70FtjB/IMG-3285.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/y3ZrBVtB)

And finally a modern bike, no idea why I like this but it just made me keep looking at it. Italian porn.

Nice selection there Ken. A few friends had a XT Yamaha when contemporary, one has one now and rolls downhill from his house to start when cold with a bump start  :) they, all big single, can give a bit of a pop if you're not careful when starting.

There's an Aprilia V4 lives near me and with accessory exhaust too, it's got a really crisp crack when he blips it, also the most beguiling wail as it's wound up too, a stunning bike, agree with your interest.

Ditto on the 'prilla. They look and sound like they are straining at the leash to let rip at the slightest provocation.

I generally cannot be bothered with modern sports bikes but these and maybe the blades which are just neat and purposeful.

That's a great selection of bikes there Ken, especially the Z1B - I had one new in that colour in 1975. Bought it from Onger Motorcycls in Essex when I was working down south (very few Kawasaki dealers then). Part exchanged for a GS1000HC at Queens Park Motors in 1978 - maybe you worked on either bike! When I arrived to pick up the Suzuki, the Z1 was that mint, they put it straight in the window! Wish I still had that bike

The Hawker Hunter, beautiful. We had the last four of them in RAF service with us in Gibraltar back in the 1970s. During an amphibious exercise with the Navy we had one of them coming over us at mind you head level as we waded onto the beach, what fun!

First ride out this year, a trip down memory lane, parked outside the village pond opposite the farm that is now a holiday let.
The wonky looking house on the right was my home as a teenager. The stains on the tarmac where I parked the bike are not mine.
In the summer of 1976 the pond dried up for the first time since before the 1900's, my brother saved the fish that were transferred into the cattle troughs in the farmyard.

I had forgotten how much my hips hurt when I ride a 400 - definitely too small for me.

1976 was a mega hot summer, remember it well as I was taking my bus test in the middle of the heat wave, I was supposed to be on my holidays but swapped them in order to go into the bus school, of course when the time came to take my holidays the heat wave had ended, went on for around 10 weeks I think.

Bikes looking well Ted, if it's too small sell it.

I was a soldier in Gibraltar at the time. I came back to the UK ( Hastings) for two weeks or shooting (no proper ranges in Gibraltar, no room for one!) It was hotter in England than it was in Gibraltar! They weren't screaming about global warming though.

1976 and I was in a mixed comprehensive school in Acton. It was time to make the third year choices for our future career. All the boys were marched into the assembly hall where a chap dressed in full RAF uniform clip clopped his way to the front and told us what a great life we'd have if we joined the RAF. The glamour, I was ready to sign up for a 9 year stint there and then. 'Any questions boys' he said, 'Yes sir' said one boy, 'What planes will we fly'. 'Fly' he said, 'Oh no, you are not educated enough to FLY, you'll be ground crew'. With that my future career with the RAF was over before it had even begun 🙁. Two years later I joined London Transport as an apprentice coach trimmer, fantastic job and never looked back😁

I have no idea why but I have always liked Gibraltar, I first visited The Rock when I was crewing on a small (45/50ft)motor yacht circa summer of 1967 we put into the harbor to take on fuel but it was a bank holiday August so we had to wait a couple of days.
I swam in the harbor with my spear gun in hand - lovely clear blue water. We set sail to leave & were caught in the Levante as we entered the Straights into the Mediterranean, we had to put into a small fishing Port named Motril iirc where we waited until the wind had subsided.

Fast forward to around 1983/4 & we enjoyed a two week holiday staying at The Rock Hotel, we were luck enough to visit a special event where the RAF had flown in some WW2 & Modern Planes.
Then of course there was the ritual event on a Sunday where the locals drove to the still closed border only to be refused crossing. Traffic Lights on the Runway !!

At that time scrap cars that littered the roads were pushed into the sea at the far end of the rock.

Is that your 500 Julie, I thought you had a black 550? Lovely looking bike if it is.

No photos to post - I had a run out to Newhaven this afternoon on my 400 as the forecast was dry today, it is starting to run very nicely, hot idle was 1200 rpm.

Rear brake needed some adjustment on my return as the new rear brake shoes are starting to bed in. Only issue I had was with my big feet, twice the right hand foot rest decided to stay in the up position after coming to a stop at traffic lights before moving off. I'm not very good at looking down to flip the footrest back down when moving at 15-20 mph. A stop was needed to flip the foot rest back down.

Not a biggie but front brake decided to make some Pig squeal noises under light braking just as I came to a stop, as I can't wear my hearing aids when my helmet is on not sure how loud it is. Might need some adjustment on the front calliper screw as it all feels rather solid.

Out on the K3 at Shiel Bridge after a lovely ride from Oban to Fort William then Invergarry in past Cluanie Dam and down Glen Shiel. Then back for the 17.15 ferry , bike ran well but I was aching for the last forty of the 214 miles.[attachimg=1]

That sounds like a lovely ride Hubert, not many places where you have to catch a ferry as part of a day trip.

Yes, thanks both it was a nice day and warm too. I was running in with only 160 miles on the engine so was going slowly. That sort of distance is the limit of my endurance at 66 and timewise between the 0835 ferry in and the 1715 ferry back

Love your candy gold 550 Julie, what a nice bike . I'd kinda like to have one too 😁

True, I certainly find the road surface a big factor, a good two way "A" road is so much more comfortable compared to a minor road full of potholes and ridges.

The only part of my 400 that I did not rebuild was the front forks as they had clearly had new seals fitted before I bought it. If I keep the 400 when my 500 project is done I will at the very least drain out the fork oil to see what condition it is in.

Just back from touring around Norway.

Nowt much to grumble about up there, but if you do visit and expect pot holed roads you'll be disappointed.

A quick mention
The new tenants didn't seem to realise a bikers night would swamp the village,

She seems to like over charging, and claimed it is a "eating establishment ",not a local pub,

Lots of upmarket SUVs with personal plates had a lot of trouble navigating the village lanes,

But,some nice bikes

Lovely few hours bimble around the Wolds today. Stopped off for a coffee at Ashby Puerorum Church, which is on a farm, where they leave tea / coffee making facilities in the church for anyone that's passing by to help themselves. Then all day brekkie at Rachel's café, Hagworthingham, finished off with a coca cola at The Willoughby Arms.

Cracking ride out today, beautiful sunny day, lovely and warm and for a Sunday, the roads were quite quiet.
If you look closely on the horizon, in front of the tree, there is a large stone Meridian Line marker point, so my bike was in the east, Graham's bike was in the west 😊😊😊😊

Great weather here still, 28-30° just perfect for riding.
Went up in the mountains to a Monestary, not that I've a relegious bone in me but the ride was spectacular so was the building, if you like a bit of bling.

I love Cypus, Wendy & I used to stay mostly in the Coral Bay area near Paphos.
I went a couple of times with my late father we would drive all over the Island spending many hours in the Troodos Mountains in a hired little Dihatsu.
Do it while you can Julie, sadly flying is history for me.

Hello Hubert,
Lovely bike and scenery - I was down that way in early June and stopped at the Cluanie Inn for lunch.
I've just been down into Yorks and Lancs on the Forza (Pete M says hello) and came down the west, hoping to meet up with you but didn't hear back - hey ho, perhaps another time eh?  Hope the latest acquisition is progressing.

Catch up soon,
Ian

No probs Roo. Did you have to pay at the car park @ the Gorge?
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2023
Post by: Laverdaroo on October 09, 2023, 01:07:29 PM
No, they tried to get some dosh out of me but I argued that there are are 6 free bike spaces and I was one of those bikes. He mentioned that there were over 25 bikes in the car park and they all couldnt be amongst the 6 free spaces and if need be he would put a ticket on all of  them if I didnt pay. I urged him to make a start but inofrmed him he best be sure he was a good runner as even in leathers, he had no chance of esacaping 25+ bikers that were baying for blood over his ridiculous car parking regime.

Needless to say, he toddled off and presumably told his Mum as about 10 mins later the cops turned up to say that somebody had been threatened and we should all move. As the attending plod was a biker who I've seen before he winked and just said that he was there in presence only and not to worry, just had to go through the motions etc.

What a crock. They want you to put 6 bikes in one car parking space (way too many), too close together to actually get on and off when crammed like that but then everyone has to pay per bike. meaning they want 6 tickets per car parking space............eeeeer, no thanks!
What is the law now apparently is to park up the hill in the gorge and walk down to get a cuppa!........REALLY?

They did offer us a fantastic scenario where we can park for free 400m up the gorge away from the coffee shop and the toilet where we wouldn't be an issue en masse. We can then walk down the gorge on the road (with no foot path), down to the cafe to get a brew, to then walk it back up and sit and drink it near our bikes at no charge................Perfect!

I really have no idea why people are so anti bike, we spend a fortune on coffee and burgers etc, dont leave a spot of rubbish, there are no tab ends about and we always park efficiently and considerably for everyone else , we never have any problems with anybody but it appears that we are bikers so cant be trusted and need to be out of  the town. Incredible.

Saying that  and taking all sides of the subject into consideration most of us have comeup with the same attitude.

I'll park where I want and I'll very much, do as I please!

Pattern silencers
Overpolished alloy.
Top yoke should be painted black.
HT Plug Caps

This looks an interesting project CA175 just like CD175A sloper but different tank and electric start .. hence the larger side panel to accommodate a larger capacity battery.

I guess that's either a C92 (125cc) or C95 (150cc) or possibly the CA USA version.

The early bikes had flattish profile silencers (a bit like C100) and the later ones had more rounded like a C50 style. Really depends on the year. Pre-1963 I think had the flatter silencers and flat pressed steel bars with a mega rare and EXPENSIVE plastic emblem in the centre of the bars. Repros are available from the Far East but if you ever see a genuine one at an autojumble grab it!

This is the later style with standard silencers.

There's definitely a storm brewing, just putting the bikes inside for the winter, I can't believe that's another riding season over 😭😭😭😭

Unbelievably it has passed by at quite a speed. Mine are away today for a few months, probably March at the earliest. Sad times! Touring bike available throughout the winter for the odd run.🥶

I think it's storm Babette thats heading our way and your way next Johnny. Yes, we've left two CD250u's accessible for a dry cold day ride.

I'm waiting until the Council vandals start chucking salt about before putting the classics away - they often start around where Johnny stays but out here in the Wild West we can often get a longish ride without venturing to the great Metropolis.
Lots to do this Winter though - wheel rims and silencer to have re-chromed on the 550, more parts to paint on the Ducati Elite and a CD175 Sloper to finish assembly and wiring for a friend up here.
The 350 Forza will be used as and when and cleaned regularly - 3200 miles on already, new in May - love it!

I'll be taking mine off the road next month for some much needed maintenance and fitting of new parts. After that it will be run through the winter, so long as the weather isn't too bad of course. No fun in thick snow.

I saw this 'show pony' at Stafford but quite a few things non-standard that let it down as a true UK model
USA front guard
K0 chainguard (should be painted black, not chromed)
Alloy rims
K0 'TYPE 1" stamped points cover.
Pattern silencers
Overpolished alloy.
Top yoke should be painted black.
HT Plug Caps
Headlamp bowl should be painted black.

Below is the CB350K4 UK Brochure shot.

I dont agree mate ..if you put a show pony up on the VJMC stand you are asking for it to be scrutinised.

How do you know it's a show pony? For me a show pony is a bike that isn't used on the roads, half have no engine internals for example or are trailered there. Unless you know for certain that's the case it should be admired for what it is, we can all find fault with other peoples bikes, just admire the work that's gone into it even if it doesn't float your own particular boat.

I thought that 150 looked as good as new, a credit to the owner with a well deserved Blue Rosette.
FWIW the expression "Show Pony" says more about the Critic than the Owner it's like calling a good looking gal a Tart. Even if it's true she is still a looker.😁😁😁

I was merely pointing out the inaccuracies Ken. If you went to that much trouble restoring one you would find the correct front mudguard for instance. I have found five of them in the past 8 years for own projects, which rechromed perfectly. I bought a NOS K4 one which I sold on and sourced 3 more for friends for their bikes. So no I am not being picky as the parts are out there if you look globally. If it was a 'show pony' CB500K0 and it had a Candy Custom Gold paint set rather than a Statlight Gold set you would be all over criticising it.

Sorry but must disagree with you there Ash. If it was a show pony 500 then frankly I'd be disgusted that such a good bike was being wasted. The colour it was wouldn't bother me in the least, each to their own. My K1 is in Starlight Gold so incorrect colour, it has loads of parts from other period 500/550s as well, I don't mind that either. So long as the parts suit the bike I'm good with it. Like the 550F2 having a double stay front guard when it should only have the rear stay, it's period so that wouldn't bother me in the least. I even have a Yamaha rear light on mine, again, period.

However, IF the owner was selling it as original then yes I would point out inconsistencies, maybe the owner didn't want the expense of buying an overpriced NOS guard when he had a perfectly acceptable one ready to go.

There's no harm in expressing an opinion Ash, I just thought the comments were unwarranted. IF you hadn't have pointed out the things that were not 100% standard I doubt I'd have known any different TBH. To me it just looked a really nice restoration, another old bike back on the road. Same for the red 150, not my cup of tea at all. However, if the owner wants to spend thousands doing a restoration I say good luck to him, he'll likely never get that money back again, but I really suspect he or she will be over the moon with a blue rosette, it's like a nod in their direction, yeah good job there, looks nice.

I attended 2 bike shows with my L reg, on both occasions I was asked to put the bike in the show, it won awards on both occasions even though it was unwashed. It made my day, even though I didn't attend to do that. It sort of vindicates your taste, it may not be to everyones' taste but at least they recognise the effort involved. If the criteria was to be 100% original they'd be no bikes show, no customs, no choppers etc. Lighten up, appreciate the beauty, take it for what it is, not what it's not, that's my point.

No personal slight intended Ash (I posted tongue in cheek) I understand we have many members here like yourself who are very knowledgable keen to follow the mantra of originality with incredible attention to detail. It is good that we are a broad church with others not too woried if its a K2 part on a K1 often driven by availabilty or cost.

I know a member here who did not post photos of his finished bike as he did not want a barrage of fault finding as to the quality & originality of his build. I agree if a member posts he has done a re-build to original specification in concours finish then fire away with all that is wrong.

When a members comments receive some negative feedback is this not how we all learn?
I had no idea that the little 150 had the wrong silencers fitted so maybe neither did the judges or they accept that some parts are just no longer available.

I would be very concerned if my comments made you consider "voting with your feet" I see you as a valued contriutor so if my choice of words have offended you I appologise unreservedly Ash.

Also saw this on show at Stafford last Saturday, which look nice and not over blingy.

https://steelcityclassics.co.uk/classic-bikes/honda/cb400-four/158272.htm

Had the rear axle the correct way round but how DARE they sell it with carb air screw plastic caps missing. That would have driven me insane owning that bike. Not to mention the handlebar clamp bolts.

You can file the marking off and repolish the top if you need to.

I'd be more concerned about why there is only 1 pic of the left hand side and that's from a distance, plenty of close ups of the right. The wiring is wrong as well, going above the headstock and under the tank there.

Had withdrawal symptoms following all that wind and rain so I dragged the scoot out for a run.  Wet when I set off and lots of gravel washed out from farm tracks but improved as the day went on.  Went to visit a friend in Kirkwall with the hope of seeing his 'basket case' AJS but they were also out enjoying the improving weather.
He unearthed this Ajay recently and it turned out to be the very one that he and his mates thrashed to death on the Island of Egilsay when they were youths and where he was born.  Fortunately he has pictures of when it was nearly new and the original buff log book came with it, so registration shouldn't be too difficult.

This was down on the Cornquoy road by the old Kirk in Holm - I was on my way to the honesty box shop for cake!

More on the bike story for any Brit enthusiasts when I get sight of it - I think I've got the job of doing the engine!

Something I have always wanted,

Treated myself,

Looked OK,but needed work,
Brakes were binding, so new pistons and seals

Headlights were bodged, how it passed its MOT, Bulbs glued in!

Now runs UK H4 ,Relay fitted for low beam,

More or less perfect

Might get original colour scheme fitted, with light gold wheels,
They will also suit the Repsol scheme

As this

What do you think?

I would agree with Magpie, the original red/white/blue is the one to go for, Honda got it perfect. A mate had a Fireblade repainted in Repsol colours and he was continually asked if it had been previously crashed!

Something to be wary of though is the insurance on a bike that is not in standard colours, insurance companies have been known to reject claims for bikes damaged where the owner has failed to advise them of colour change and especially where the colours replicate a racing livery. Insurance companies think the colour scheme of a bike potentially makes the owner ride faster and take more risks and we all know how insurance companies will use any excuse to avoid paying on claims.

To reach a comfy 5'6" I would have to lop off 7"  from my femur that was fitted with a Cloverleaf type Kuntscher Nail back in 1966 when I fractured it as a pillion.
When the nail was removed ten months later I kept it as a souvenier - it survived four flat/house moves but was lost when I was  divorced. It was in an old badly worn briefcase in the loft. Weird but I miss not having it close by.
