Hi everyone,
I am about to clean up the wiring loom having had some charging issues.
I need to know what gauge wire is used on the CB550 and what size connectors etc would be best.
I would like to replace the bullet connectors with sleeved spade connectors.. what size would be best?
Also if anyone knows of a good UK supplier that would be handy... I need a pic 'n' mix place where I can buy bits without having to buy a kit with a million things I don't need.
thanks guys

I use these two regularly

Can't remember the gauge of the wire but it needs to be good for 15A.
Unless it's part of the starter circuit which needs to be much heavier.

You need 3.5mm bullets (not 3.9) and they are only available from the USA or China when / last bought some. I will try to dig out the info.

VintageConnections in the USA sell a whole range but last time returned my PayPal money saying they no longer ship to UK but told me their suppliers who do deal with UK. They also sell the Hitachi style multi-pin 6.3 blade connectors and glossy, soft black or silver sleeving and loom tape.I will try to dig out the info. tonight.

The 6 way 6.3mm connector blocks take up too much space in the headlamp shell and that's pushed for space as it is.
I used the 3.9mm bullets from Vehicle Wiring Products and have been OK 👌

They are OK as long as you don't use with the existing mating Honda bullets /receptacles. Not sure but I think CB72/77 are the larger size. If you don't need standard Deutsch connectors are the dogs B http://www.deutschconnector.com/products/deutsch_connectors/deutsch_dt_series_connectors/

I buy cable and some bullet/socket (3.9mm) connectors from vehicle wiring products. As Ash says they should be (3.5mm) but for the extra cost why not replace the opposite connector.
Also, vehicle wiring do not stock the 6.3mm Honda OE block connectors (as image), and from experience they are difficult to find.
PM me if you need 1/2

This is the place I use in the States ... They even sell the soft silver coloured sleeving used on 60's Hondas.

The main thing I can't find anywhere though is the round brown multiway connectors used on CB750K0 / CB250/350K ignition switch.

If you have a dishwasher, chuck the loom in on a cycle. It comes up like new.

Thanks Mike.. it's already in the washing machine!

What I do is then ultrasonically clean the ends is distilled water of the connectors to remover any trace of dishwasher salt, if you get salt in those connectors and the crimped wire ends ... then expect trouble further down the line.

Alan. I may have missed all your posts, do you have a CB550K or CB500F. The 'K' has a 5 wire safety switch as the 'F' as a 2 wire safety switch.
If it's the 'K' 5 wire switch (red connector as image) is it still operating?

Thanks for the reply Al, I've been helping a friend with his CB550K3, his also has no 5 wire red connector for the safety switch.
The Clymer manual M332 (as image) shows the 5 wire/switch, but I have now found out that it only applies to the CB550 K0 & K1. All versions thereafter are 2 wire.
Thanks again
