Title: Does this 750K5 look a good buy?
Post by: Drew400 on July 18, 2017, 07:58:56 PM
Hi all,

I'm no expert on 750Ks, hence this question: does this look a good buy? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/honda-cb750-k5-motorbike-/253040407868?hash=item3aea62353c:g:zNwAAOSw-29ZPm5-#shpCntId

I'm also inherently suspicious of ebay!

Comments and hints appreciated (e.g. can you private message a seller on e-bay?).

Cheers, D.

Not enough photos to really say one way or another. You can p.m the seller, click on his username, then it will give you the option to "Ask seller a question" which is the way to contact him. The U.K. K2 Trigger posted the other week was cheaper, and other people on here have used the shop selling it and were full of praise for him.

Sorry to pick you up on this but, the K5 never had D spacers  ;)
I would want it to be in very good nick for that price and would need to see it up close and personal .

My view is that it is rather expensive for a K5

Never believe a parts list, they had changed to 7mm bolts by then  ;)
It was superseded from 53230-341-700 to 53230-341-305 for the K5 and K6.

I think you could forgive us for questioning it though ..seeing as it's listed in the Parts Book !

Perhaps you could share with us the most glaring errors you have from the Honda Manuals Graham.

Many member contact me questioning parts book/manuals, ask RGP about the incorrect crank case bolts  ;D
I have never read a parts manual, so I only know though experience if something is correct or not  ;)

Insider Tip: measure the width of the 'tip of the unicorn horn'

From an engineering point of view re "d " washers why would changing the bolt diameter stop the top yoke breaking??
the stress is in the ally casting and doesn't change by bolt size surely????

Oddjob has already been through this before but, I will go though it again. From unicorn to K4 on the 750 and 500 the bolt was 8mm into a 8.3mm hole, on these measurements a D spacer is required. In late 1974, Honda upgraded the top yokes with better alloy and used a 7mm bolt into a 7,3mm hole. Therefore more alloy it there to take the stress  ;)

Sorry Trigg , I'll go with Better spec Ally but where i have seen them break the bolt size will be irrelevant :-\

Maybe this is a UK bike thing? Every original US import K5/6 that I've had in does have the D spacer...?

Just dug out a original old microfiche on a USA K6 and can't see any D spacers listed but, clearly listed are the 7mmx54mm bolts  ;)

Microfiche must be wrong Trigger. I never believe what's in the parts book / microfiche

Yes they are not listed for K6 but everyone else telling me K5 had em . Ha ha don't have sleepless nights over it  ;D K5 was never officially sold here so can't be a UK thing

Me have a sleepless night, never heard of  ;D ;D. It is all down to if the top yoke is the superseded part and bolt hole size  ;)
