Title: Pull-throttle cable install
Post by: AndyH on August 16, 2017, 09:39:12 AM
Hi folks, I'm having a battle figuring out how to install the "pull" throttle cable on my CB500K1 at the throttle grip end.
The grip housing is threaded, and the "pull" cable is also threaded, but not on a separate ferrule like the "push" cable is.  I should mention that the throttle housing is a new replacement.
Has the PO left me with a non-standard cable, or am I missing something?

Here's a pic of the cable at the throttle grip end.

That is the correct cable. Easiest if you fit the push or return cable to the housing first, then fit the pull or opening cable.

Fair enough, but how do I actually thread the cable end into the grip housing?   Remove the cable altogether and spin it around onto the housing?  How far in should I go?   Just doesn't compute!!  :o ??? ::) :-\

Yes, remove the cable end and spin it in the housing, I use midway down the thread as a starting point. It's a pain to do, but not difficult, not the best design but it works!

I changed my handlebars the other week and had to swap the throttle lever and switchgear over, so had to swap the two throttle cables. It wasn't an issue, although like you, I was bemused at first, that one cable, the pull one, had a revolving nut into the throttle body, but the push cable had a solid screwed fixing.

I just screwed the push cable fixing into the throttle body before I ran the throttle cable to the carbs. I didn't have to take the inner cable out of the outer cable. It was very straightforward. I also just screwed the fixing in about half way down the thread and nipped up the lock nut, although it physically can't unscrew, once installed, it does make for a tighter connection and stops the threads from fretting.

Cheers Jon!   I've still a way to go yet to complete the restoration.  See  here  (http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,13007.0.html) for progress.
