Title: 550 Ignition Coils
Post by: Valentinik on August 27, 2017, 10:11:55 PM
My bike didnt come with ignition coils when i bought it, so i need to buy a set. Im not sure my budget can stretch to Dyna coils, so i wanted to know what my best option would be.

1: Buy a set of original coils, knowing the HT leads need to be repaired/replaced
or
2: Buy a pair of pattern coils from wemoto, etc. (Are there any issues with these coils, as you find with some pattern parts?)

Thanks
Mike

I bought a pair of pattern coils from DSS. I guess he and Wemoto get them from same source. Work ok.long flexible HT leads.
Buy the best value

Pattern ones are about £18 each on ebay and work fine   ;)

Beware of any low resistance primary coils as they take far too much current over standard . Coil primary resistance should ideally be no less than 4.5 Ohms.

Just bought new coils from ebay £18.95 each for the 550/4 k3,bike started up fine and all cylinders running at more or less same temp,i did have a prob with one cylinder not firing properly before this.the coil leads are flimsy in comparison to originals but way long enough.the colour code of wires differ but connectors are the same.plugnplay!

Could you inform us some more? Do they have removable cables? What primary resistance? A pic? Link?

Sorry can't help as bikes are well and truly covered up at the moment.
They are the cheap £18.95 coils the HT leads aren't removable but have more than enough length.
I cut the red and white wires down as they are far to long and mounted the coils upside down on the 750 can't remember with the 550.
The 750 runs on points and the 550 has Boyer bransden electronic ignition
