Title: UK K0 on eBay...one for the debating society
Post by: AshimotoK0 on October 01, 2017, 08:36:44 AM

Like my 10/69 UK bike,  No wrinkle tank but later tank trim

Maybe by his eBay handle  it's all b*llocks   ;D ;D

Who would buy anything off a bloke with a user name like that lol....

Bike looks ok to my untrained eye, but i imagined a K0 would be worth more ?

He needs to put up more pictures, close ups of pipes etc, as from those you can't see enough details.

I quite fancy that for myself, only because I like the colour, but we are stacked out with bikes at home and they all need to come indoors for the winter over the next few days, except the CD250u's which stay on the road all year. But, maybe I could find space for just one more ;D ;D ;D

Bit confused why it's J reg because it is an early diecast (mine is 1010382) and Oct 69 manufacture  too. Even the UK press bike used in the Honda sales brochure  was a  much later VIN than this YLY 70H.

EDIT : I thought I saw the VIN but maybe I was dreaming .. so above may be b*llocks and it's a late K0 VIN

Just notice K1 type carbs to go with the black stripe tank trim. K0/K1 interim perhaps?

If it stayed at that price - I would - but that's doubtful!

Well,
It seems to have disappeared off EBay?
Has it sold and I wonder what for? A shrewd restorer/ collector perhaps? 😉 It needed quite a pot to get it up to fine fickle though or just ride it of course..

It happens all of the time Nigel and really bugs me, as I would never pull a bike once it's been on there for sale for a few days and has lots of watchers or bids. eBay have really tightened up on selling recently to the point that you can't even include your phone number in listings/messages ...  I even thought of linking a photo in a message reply, where the photo has your contact details included on it but evidently they scrutinise any attachment photo details too. ......so when are they going to clamp down on the auction pullers ? they must be losing a fortune in selling fees on those pulled auctions.

Another thought ...maybe his missus came back  & he's keeping  it !

i got an ebay 7 day ban for sending my number to a guy..
i have also sent pictures of my number or email in their add pictures on the message reply...my pal takes pics infront of his work van with all his contact details on...
i suspect the guy panicked and pulled the add due to no bids

Indeed Ash,
There was a time, not so long ago, that bike would of recieved several bids - really odd it had NONE!?! Would love to know why, as I never stop learning with these bikes, to hear if it had any major/expensive faults. There are a lot of K0's out there now. When I had brought mine, only 4 years ago, they were quite rare and seemed sought after (and still should be in my opinion.) Maybe it will show up one day. Pity it's bit been locked away for so long. Someone has certainly not realised ther investment (if that was the intention) on this occasion.
I Thought that, based on the poor photos, as Julie observed, it would of sold for around £7000 min.
How many did they import? 200? Less? 50?
  Nige.

Maybe someone went round and looked at it and made the seller an offer he was happy with and removed it from ebay.

Not sure on the exact numbers Nigel but I suspect Honda UK got their fingers burned with the CB450K0 Bombers . I think someone told me that they commited to 1000 CB450K0  bikes in 1966 and those didn't sell as well as expected, so they were still being sold off at discount into the early 1970's. You never see a genuine '67 UK bike with flip front seat (like JamesH's USA import), probably because of this. So they probably 'tested the water' with the CB750 diecast in Jan. 1970 with an initial batch of 20 'ish. The 1st one 1010369 belongs to a member on here and mine is 14 numbers up from that. The UK press bike  was 1015262 and was 1st regd  25/02/70. I reckon that would have been been registered and handed to the press/publicity dept pretty pronto on arrival of it's  shipping batch into the UK. I did start a register of UK 750 diecasts but I still work full time so I will probably get back into it when I go 3-days next year. Any info gratefully received. I know Steff on here has a few UK early diecasts (don't like to call them K0's)

I think you've got it right Julie. I wonder what he sold it for.. I must admit I was tempted but the lack of bids... I'm not an expert on these as Trigg knows! I just was't sure..
Ash, interesting. Oops,  Bombers agin!! Soreeee.. My Bomber is one of the first 50 imported as it so happens.
But, interestingly, I actually have a mint General export UK spec K1( they were generally named the K1) manufacturedi in '69, reg in 70 as confirmed on the VIN and V5. Yes, it actually has the forward lifting seat, with it's support bar! Cute..  I believe these 450 GE export UK specs are very rare now - rarer than the UK bombers.
Thanks for the heads up, very interesting.
  Nige.

I wonder if he withdrew the bike before the 12 hour ebay withdrawal deadline because he was worried the bids would be less than he anticipated/wanted - bearing in mind he had no bids so close to the end. He would have had to honour the sale if someone bid say £6k

we have always known of the diecast and sandcast  bikes as being just named the cb750 everything that came after so was called k0 k1 k2 k4 k6 only these bikes came to the UK of course there are k3 k5 k7  even k8 same goes for cb250 cb500 cb450 etc etc the k series came later but as you know the big market was and still is the good old USA  and the rest of the world of course us die hard britts still drolled over what could have been  lol even the japs  feared the rocket 3 and trident dont forget the norton comando was voted bike of the year for 3 years on a trot  dont get me wrong awesome track bikes and faster than the hondas but biking was getting a honda make over electric start  indicators and no oil leaks and as a bonus zero maintinance  as for the american imports .it just goes to show that the UK can still be used as a a dumping ground for all those  old university toys jap cr@p and including the britt sh+t we just need to remember we are still bottom of the pile thanks to europe lol i need more beer now im boring myself now ;)

Yes, indeed Steff,
We were treated rather shabily by the Japanese. Ironic, that the Americans Didn't really look after them. Although we stripped the jap bikes to enhance their Brit bikes - particularly the brakes! This was the demise of many of Brit spec Jap bikes in the 60's sadly.
We can now spit in their eye (the Japs) with a wink and many of us can hold our head high looking after these bikes. Also ironic that the US bikes are now chasing us now in the UK looking for lots TLC in the last 10 years!! 😏

Maybe it was just Honda UK being cautious like I said and only committing to a small batch ..then missing the boat literally. Also if the tale that was told to RGP750 on here was true .. Honda UK supposedly sold off the pre-prod prototypes that landed here by mistake and had to pronto buy them back for ££££, one being sold to the Science Museum (not the one they have now though, which they emailed me and told me is in storage but I could have a viewing if I wished !). If that's true Honda in Japan must have been pretty miffed.

Back to Bombers.. what's your VIN Sparrow.. I have my bike (67 reg)  , plus the one I sold to Roy on here (67 reg) plus 3 frames plus a few logbooks of one's I couldn't find in the haul, so a few VIN's to share. Personally I always much preferred the K1 and that's what I would have bought for my collection but mine came to me by chance,K0,  albeit in bits....Kettle736 on here persuaded me to keep it & restore it.

Morning Ash and all,
I'm an early bed chappie so just read your txt, so will PM you the 450 VIN etc, before the 450 theme gets me into trouble! As much as I love them though... 👍
The hunt for the 'right' 750 continues meanwhile...🤔

Ash, have the info you need. Vin, 302### engine, 302###. The K1 spec and number remained within the export models for a long while since '67, a little like the UK K2 until the UK K6.
  Can you email me?
