Been riding since 1969 and had loads of different bikes but no 'fads' as I like to try and keep a bike as long as I can, currently own a 1998 Blackbird with 88k miles on her and a newer Tracer (yeah sorry!) which I got a couple of years ago and really like.
Anyoldway, my first proper bike was a CD175, went up to a Superdream 250 and then to a CB750K7 which I bought new from Bill Smiths in Chester (in the old place) in 1979. I kept the 750 for best part of 9 years and then sold it, which, in retrospect I shouldn't have done because it was a great bike, the photoo is me and the missus in 1981 setting off for Switzerland from Aberdeenshire on our first biking trip abroad.

Anyway the reason I have joined this is because I really fancy taking a poor old 750 and restoring it to as near standard as possible. I know my mechanical limitations but I also remember taking the engine out of the 750, powder coating the frame and just basically fettling, which with the new bikes you just can't do.

At the moment we are waiting to move house but the intention is to build a decent garage where I can make it decent enough to spend my dotage in and do some restoring so you can expect a lot of questions once I get going !

One question I do have, having read a lot of posts on here, seems the 750k's are popular up to and including the K6, why is the K7 not as popular, is there something I don't know !!

Not sure about why K7’s are not as popular but one of the dyed in the wool 750 aficionados will chime in soon.
My Sister lives in Aberdeenshire and we’ve been to Fyvie a few times and I like the music of the Boys of the Lough - Andrew Lammie, the Trumpeter of Fyvie, a sad story.

Lots of good info and knowledgable folk on here to guide you through the pitfalls,

I know some local guys who had a Folk Band and some of them still meet up in the Vale for the monthly meet of the Folk Club, not particularly my scene (prefer rock !!) but they are great lads and lasses.

The biggest issues I found was PD carbs, nightmare when they go wrong, 17 inch rear wheel really limited tyre choices back then, and seamless quick rot silencers, which today are very difficult to find, but other than those minor issues, nice bikes!

The k7 is a great engine but not so desirable bodywork also the carbs are the same as the f2 and never really run as well as earlier k models
But they are still a good buy if you had one and liked it then might be a good way of getting back into it as they are relatively cheap compared to the other k models

One of the last trips we attempted was from Aberdeen to Jersey but only got as far as Oxford because for some unknown reason I got a petrol leak through the carbs (also 2 punctures on the way down) and neither me nor the or AA could fix it so we ended up on a Relay Truck all the way back home (my god that was a trip I'll never forget because in those days the AA Recovery Trucks would only go to the extent of their 'Region' so we ended up swapping trucks all the way up !)
Anyway, may that was one of the Carb problems you mentioned.

Mine was one of the blue ones and finally died on the way up Frodsham Hill to the dealer to collect a 250 !

Do you still have those Hondastyle leathers in the photo? Honda gave a set of those leathers to the riders of the Wimbledon Speedway team in the mid 70's. Unfortunately they didn't make them go any faster!

I bought them from the Honda shop in Aberdeen (Cheynes) around 1979, they had got them for some of the sales guys but the one I bought had been bought for someone who was 44" chest, like me, but he was probably only 44" tall as well (a weeble!) so obviously never fit him, so I got them cheap.

There was absolutely no protection, just thin leather but those days thats all we got, It was a good pose though !!
