While waiting for the rest of my ignition system to arrive i test fitted the stop tail light that i made. The housing is made from aluminium and the lamp itself is held in with stainless mesh and a stainless circlip.

I've not had much time to work on the bike since my last update due to moving house earlier in the year so my time has been filled with diy, gardening and lots less interesting things than getting this finish.

Earlier in the year i bought a set of cb500 carbs which i've stripped down to replace all of the serviceable parts and powder coat some pieces.

Over the last couple of days i've ordered a few bits to hopefully get the bike started for the first time (since i stripped it down). I've now fitted the oil pump along with the left had engine cover. Today some tappet caps and new ignition coils arrived. Ive got the coils fitted, just need to sort the spark plug leads out.

The carb bits and tappet caps should go to the powdercoaters within the next few weeks and then i can hopefully make a start on getting it started.

Thanks both, from looking at the parts list the D7ES is listed.

I presume the D8 is a cooler running plug? What would the advantage/disadvantage of the cooler plug be?

Use plugs WITHOUT resistors.

Thanks, i thought that may be the case. What model plugs are recommend?

Pattern ones are about £18 each on ebay and work fi
Could you inform us some more? Do they have removable cables? What primary resistance? A pic? Link?

All of these things would interest me too.

CB500/550 / 550 Ignition Coils
« on: August 27, 2017, 10:11:55 PM »
My bike didnt come with ignition coils when i bought it, so i need to buy a set. Im not sure my budget can stretch to Dyna coils, so i wanted to know what my best option would be.

1: Buy a set of original coils, knowing the HT leads need to be repaired/replaced
or
2: Buy a pair of pattern coils from wemoto, etc. (Are there any issues with these coils, as you find with some pattern parts?)

Thanks

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I've cleaned up the jets, etc  so I think I will go with the o-rings from Gerben.

Thanks for the input everyone, I did contact cruzinimage about buying a set from them but got no response. I will go for a set from 4into1 hopefully they will do the job.

Thanks

Welcome Kevin, I'm from Sutton Coldfield myself, so you're not too far away from me. The build looks really interesting.

I'm using an electrex unit as well on my 550, and am also running a motobatt AGM battery.

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

It seems like the lithium battery is not a great idea so il have to rethink where to mount the battery.  Can I ask what model of motobatt you fitted?

Thanks
Mike
