CB350/400 / Gearbox Coutershaft
« on: April 28, 2020, 02:43:24 PM »
Hi,

I'm currently starting the rebuild of a 1975 model. While stripping and cleaning the coutershaft assembly I've hit a problem. I need to replace both the ball and needle bearings. The grooved twin row bearing is held in position by a sleeve. Will a normal 3 legged bearing puller pull this off? Pic is attached.
Thanks in advance

CB350/400 / Engine Paint
« on: April 08, 2018, 08:08:27 PM »
After searching the forum it would seem the three types of paint to use are Simoniz Aluminium VHT, POR15 and 2 pack. I have 2 questions: Which is closer to the original Honda colour? and / or Which do you think will give the best result?

Eagerly awaiting your expert advice...grovel, grovel.

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Vapour Blasting
« on: December 03, 2016, 04:15:30 PM »
I can recommend Dave Jones from Red Dragon Vapour Blasting in Wrexham 01978 448983. He does vapour and dry blasting. I had a price from a place in Chester (15 miles or so closer to me), but with two more items Red Dragon was still £60 cheaper. The finish is superb. From badly corroded to smooth satin.

CB350/400 / CB400F Engine Bearings

While looking for Crankshaft shells I was pointed in the direction of this thread

http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,9538.msg68584.html#msg68584

I managed to get all my shells even the yellow ones (ebay.fr) I noticed link to Yamiya for a set of engine bearings costing around 175 euros + vat + import duty, etc.

I've managed to source 3 of them. 16003, 6205 x 2 & 16004. They are SKF bearings (so high quality) they cost me less than £30 including postage.

I used a company in Bootle, Liverpool. Bearing Source, Unit 11, Millers Bridge Industrial Estate, Seymour Street, Bootle, Liverpool. L20 1EE
Speak to James on 0151 374 2151, He's really helpful.

I'm trying to track down the others and will let you know if I do.

« on: October 03, 2016, 02:08:40 PM »
Hi,

My crankcase is marked BBBBA. I need both Mains and big end shells. The crank has been checked and has minimal wear. Mains are 31.978mm, Big Ends 31.983mm. Can anyone tell me which would be the correct shells to go for please?

CB350/400 / Wet blasted casings
« on: August 15, 2016, 08:31:58 PM »
I had my CB400F engine casings wet blasted by someone that came highly recommended. Instead of using glass bead he used ground glass which was far too abrasive. Would getting them re-blasted with glass bead help to smooth them over? Or, am I destined to spend the next 10 years polishing them up?

Project Board / CB400F Engine Strip
« on: August 01, 2015, 10:15:14 PM »
Hi all, bike is a 1975 CB400F approx 20-25K from new. It's had a hard life. An argument with a MK1 ford Granada - repaired, locked in a workshop full of perspex which was set alight by arsonists - repaired, left in a damp lock up for over 20 years. Now being restored by me and my eldest son. I'm doing the engine, my son most everything else. I'm attaching some photos and will add to these as time goes on.

New Member Introductions / Hello from Birkenhead, England
« on: July 22, 2015, 10:22:49 PM »
Hi I've been off 2 wheels for nearly 22 years. I've just started a CB400F Restoration with my eldest son. The bike is a 1975 model bought from Mike Weston motorcycles, Birkenhead and is owned by my brother who has had the bike from new. It has lain unused in a damp lock up for almost 23 years and is looking sorry for itself. We aim to put is back to it's 1975 condition.
