Other Bikes / Honda CB125T kickstart assembly
« on: February 04, 2018, 08:37:22 PM »
Hi, I have another thread "CB125T from 1980" where I did up an old bike from parts. I've hit on a bit of a problem that I cant seem to fathom. I took the right crankcase off to change the gasket because of a small oil leak. I noticed the kickstart return spring had come away from its location and on trying to relocate i noticed that the pinion gear wasnt located properly either. The pinion gear seems free to move up and down the shaft (is this right). Also, the shaft seems very loose in its housing. I decided I would remove the lot and have a better look but I cant remove it because the pinion gear wont pass the the plate on the end of the gearchange shaft (its that thing to the bottom  right of the shaft i'm fiddling with in the video the spring attached). I know this is confusing so ive put a link to a youtube video that I hope will explain it better.

Hope some of you knowledgeable folk can help....cheers

Other Bikes / CB125T2 from 1980
« on: September 09, 2017, 01:54:55 PM »
Hello everyone, ive completed thd CB550F and have now aquired a CB125T2 in pieces thst has been laid on a pallet in someone's garden for years. There was so much rust I thought the bike was brown. Any way it's taking shape but there was no engine with the bike. I'm quite happy to go up in size but I was wondering if anyone knew what engine, other than the 125, would be a fit for the frame.  Also if anyone has a 125T engine or other that would fit and would fancy selling on to me. Thanks.......Pete

CB750 / Luggage Rack
« on: May 27, 2017, 10:33:58 PM »
Hi, if anyone is interested, I have a CB750 chrome luggage rack on ebay. It is in brilliant condition. I bought it to see if I could fit it to my 1977 CB550 but its way too big and the hole spacings are not right. I have added hole spacing sizes etc to the pics. I have no idea which model 750 its from but the sizes might give someone a clue as to whether it will fit their bike
Cheers everyone

CB500/550 / Do 400/4 rear mudguards /fenders fit a cb550f
« on: April 04, 2017, 10:35:07 PM »
Hi, I have replaced lots of parts on my cb550f for new including a new front mudguard from David Silver. Problem is, the rear mudguard chrome is really pitted and I'd like to replace it for new. D.Silver doesn't sell them and I can't find anywhere else that does either but I noticed on eBay that there were a few places selling new reproduction 400/4 mudguards. They look the same on the photo but could anyone tell if they would fit.
Thanks

CB500/550 / Cb550f oil leak
« on: September 23, 2016, 02:48:52 PM »
I wonder if anyone has any ideas about an oil leak I have on my cb550f. It's not really noticeable in the garden just ticking over but on a ride out it gets boot and trouser leg splatteringly bad. I've tried the talcum powder thing to try and locate the source of the leak but I'm struggling. I've attached a pic to give you the general idea. There seems to be 2leaks, both at the left side of the engine (as you sit on the bike),  one at the bottom of the fibs but the second i don't get cos the oil is collecting on top of the 6th final (from the top). This final is just ABOVE the join of the cases. I can't tell for the life of me where it's coming from. Any ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

CB500/550 / Decals and clear coat???
« on: September 21, 2016, 06:15:50 PM »
Hi,  I don't know if this question has been asked before but I'm having my cb550f repainted professionally. It will come back to me with a nice glossy topcoat but minus any decals. My question is, if I apply the decals does the tank and side panels need clear coating again or are the decals fine without. Does anyone know how Honda did it originally. Thanks

CB500/550 / Honda CB550f ticking noise
« on: September 14, 2016, 08:05:54 PM »
Hi, I own a CB550f 1977 and it has developed a ticking noise that increases with rpm. It sounds like it's coming from number 1 exhaust tappet. The strange thing is if I disconnect number 1 spark plug cap the ticking stops. Soon as I reconnect again it starts. I have installed new plugs and set gap correctly as well as the valves gap.
I have attached a link to a video so you can see/hear the problem. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
