CB500/550 / Re: CB550 F1

In Gerben's defence he was not aware that it was a F1 and that I was running pods and straight through exhaust.
Gerben has also discovered that someone one has done some braizing on the drilled holes on the main jet which he says this is not normal ! Why would this have been done ?

Hi, advise needed, I have recently brought a 1977 CB550 F1 I believe that's a super sport? It's running on pod air filters and a 4-1 Straight through exhaust. I have sent my carbs to Gerben for a good clean and refurb. He has informed me that the carbs are running on a 110 main jet which is not standard. 100 is and has asked me what I want to do? The previous owner had the bike dyno tested and it was running well but the carbs were leaking fuel hence the refurb.
Thanks

CB500/550 / Carb rebuild
« on: June 16, 2017, 05:46:52 PM »
Hi, I have decided to have my carbs rebuilt, currently I am in contact with Gerben from the Netherlands using my carbs he cleans, zinc plates and polishes up some parts and his prices seem reasonable. I know that there are some American seller's on eBay but the prices are expensive and I've heard stories of duty to pay as well.
Are there any UK based companies that offer a similar services?
Has anyone used Gerben and how have they found his work?
Thanks

CB500/550 / Clutch cable
« on: May 11, 2017, 10:18:26 PM »
Hi, I have recently purchased a 1977 CB550 F2. The previous owner replaced the clutch cable which I believe is too long. Do the clutch cable lengths vary from year to year or model to model?
Thanks

CB500/550 / Clutch biting point
« on: April 28, 2017, 06:59:55 PM »
New to the forum and a new owner of a 1977 CB550.
I'm trying unsuccessfully to adjust my clutch biting point. The clutch engages on almost the full release of the clutch lever. So far I have slackened off my clutch cable and checked that the clutch arm on the casing is lined up with the case markings. I have released the lock nut on the casing and turned the adjustment screw anti clockwise to its limit then backed off a little. Tighten clutch cable back up to it full limit but the bite point is the same!
What am I doing wrong?
(Not a mechanic but trying)
Thanks
