CB500/550 / Re: Is this a standard piston?

Thanks for the info about cleaning old gasket off.

The original tensioner is broken, moving the blade does not move the screw. The nut was seized onto the adjustment bolt too. Had to drill and dremel the nut off.
On the plus side - I did get £150 refund from the motorcycle dealer that sold me the Honda.

One of my mates has taken the head away to de- coke and re seat the valves. He says that there is no wear on the stems at all, just like new.
Some low life broke into his garage the same evening that he took my head. Power tools stolen but thankfully the head was not touched.

Sounds like you need to get the migration to the new hosting company sorted. Good luck!

I would really like to update my post "my new CB550F2 '77" but when I click on page 3 I get a white page with the following text;
 "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Your administrator may not have enabled CGI access for this directory."

I cannot even view page 3 of the thread, never mind update it. Is there any short term fixes you can apply?

I cannot browse some of the threads on sohc.co.uk.
latest error message is;
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Your administrator may not have enabled CGI access for this directory.

Replying or creating a new thread is a hit and miss event. blank screen, several attempts are required to post - I have found it easier to post text only then modify later to add photos. I have never experienced so many problems with a forum before?

I ordered some spares off David Silver and ebay to fix cam chain rattle. Bye the way - I got a refund off the dealer for the cost of the tensioner.  ;)

Everybody knows a Peter (or two), and here is a picture of my mates Peter_H and Peter_Z fetterling my Honda.
Peter_Z offered to take my head away and decoke. Also reseated the valves. Peter_Z had a nasty surprise in the morning, thief's broke into his garage and nicked power tools. Fortunately, the head was left untouched.

Popped the head off my CB550F2 to fit new cam chain and tensioner. My mates were curious to know if these are standard Honda pistons or first oversize or pattern? Any engine experts on the forum?

The bike has done 58,000 miles and I have been told that the bores look like they have been honed. Also the bores are in perfect as new condition "like a new bike, less than 10,000 mile".

A friend of mine has offered to make some nylon spacers for the seat. I will update later when I get it sorted.

Thanks for the picture. The routing is correct on mine, just too tight under the bottom yoke. I think I can gain some slack by adjusting the loom a bit. I have now got some 'amalgam tape' off ebay to repair the loom.

Thanks Steph,
Can you check the routing of the main headlamp wiring loom. Mine goes from under the left side of tank and then underneath the bottom yoke. The outer sheath has worn away but fortunately the wires are not damaged.
Just looks a bit tight and wondered if it was routed correctly.

CB500/550 / fitting a pattern seat
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:48:48 PM »
I have recently acquired a CB550F2, it came with a pattern seat 'fitted'. It rocks backwards and forwards pivoting on the lock / hinge bracket. None of the rubbers touch the frame.

Anyone got any tips on getting it to fit better? I have adjusted the lock pin as short and tight as possible and this has improved things a little. I might try relocating the hinge bracket next.

A simple fix (or so I thought) would be to remove and pack the rubbers but they are riveted on.  :-\

Does anyone know where to get a rubber bung that fits on the 'L' shaped motad bracket? It is a bump stop for the centre stand.

If you can repair the faceplate it might be worth trying a decal off ebay £9
They are white background on the listing but he also does CB750 blue background. He could probably do a blue background CB550 on request?

Has anyone got a trip reset knob for a 500/550?
