When you say the clearance is 0.01124, do you mean the crank measured 31.98876?

Countershaft Top (6th), the gear to it's right is countershaft 2nd.

You have written 1 1A 1A 1A 1A 1A in your post. I guess the extra 1A is a typo.
All 1s on the crank and BAAAA will give you 1 Green and 4 Yellow for the mains.
You need to match the letters (4 As) on the crank with the numbers on the con rods to get the big ends.
The letters on the conrods are the weight and should all be the same.

I'm sure someone will put me right if I've got mixed up.

I agree with Ash the Yellow pasivation is brilliant - how did you do the steel carb blanking plugs - presumably you had to remove them?

They press out pretty easily Ted.

Ash, would you recommend any sort of sealant when replacing the caps or is it just a matter of pressing them back in?

Check the condition of the tensioner push rod. This is one I've just had to replace.

Just for completeness. Ken posted on a different thread (by accident) that the link he provided in Reply # 8 did have the correct spade end. The first picture appears to show a bullet but the second picture clearly shows it from a different angle and is indeed a spade. So Ken was correct in saying that the sub harness in the link would do the job.

Bradders,

These are the three wires that make up the sub harness. The green is a spade not a bullet. Price of the green/yellow is ridiculous.

Ken, I don't think the harness in the link is a straight fit for the 400. The green wire should have female spade and not a female bullet. Also not that it would stop it working, the 400 is a brown wire not a brown / white. Having said that, a minor mod and it will do the job.

Bradders, I'll check tomorrow if you want.

« on: November 17, 2023, 12:48:20 PM »
Hi Dave.
Not great news, I have two spare sumps but both have issues. One has already had a thread repair to the sump plug thread, looks like it had been re-tapped with a larger thread and a brass reducer to take the original sump plug. The thread on the second one is ok but it has some minor fin damage.
If you don't get any joy elsewhere let me know if you want me to post any pics.
