The other one looks ok but I am surprised at how little the pin sticks out.

Thanks all for your replies. Have taken a closer picture showing more detail.
Julie, thanks for pm. I think the bit you were talking about was a piece of the bearing shell.

I think I'll check the other bearings and hopefully they'll be ok. If so the £130 can go into my re-chroming pot. :) :) Thanks.

Thanks Julie. I think I'll try the heat first, I'm not the best welder and am worried I'll do damage to the case.

CB350/400 / Pin removal

I could do with some advice on removing a pin from the crankcase. The pin is near enough flush with the case and I can't get any real grip on it. Looks like the engine was built (maybe rebuilt) with the bearing not in the right position so pin is jammed in, bearing is shattered (still runs smooth though). New pin required, was going to change all bearings anyway.

I guess you are talking about the 400/4. Yes strange! The parts manual lists the nuts as Nut, Hex but the diagram shows flanged. I have just checked mine and the nuts are flanged with no tab washers. I don't imagine tab washers would be great with flanged nuts. Having said that the tab washers in the Haynes manual do ring a bell from the distant past.

Hi Deano, why do you want to paint instead of powder coat?, modern powder coat can give a good gloss finish if that’s what you’re looking for.
Hi Mark. I intended to use paint to keep the bike more original, not that I am aiming for concourse just the best I can afford. Also would like to do as much as I can myself.

Hi Ashimoto, yes I meant your method for the zinc. Not much I can do about prepping the chrome apart from a good clean and rust removal.

Thanks hairygit I'll give it a try, maybe just the swing arm to start with and see how it works.

Will be doing the prep myself following AshimotoK0's method.

Thanks Trigger. The frame is in good condition, bit of light rust here and there, scratches and flakes. I am going to paint not powder coat. Haven't decided on the paint yet, recommendations welcome.

Has anyone used Niphos in Crewe for nickel and chrome plating? Allenchrome are top of my list as recommended by Nurse Julie but Niphos is just down the road so I was considering them.

Have done a search on the site and couldn't find anything on the best blasting media for frame, swing-arm, etc. Can anyone recommend a blasting media?
