Hi Ash,
Very nice bike, will watch the restoration as it continues on the Honda Twins site.
I have attached a photo of my 1974 CB350 (UK model, not sure what K? it is) Bought it for £150 in 1983 sold it for £150 in 1986...sold the Yam too for £150.00...must be worth 10 times+ now!

I had that version moroon I believe in the 250 and it was a k4.Was it the same for 350? :D
Loved it and later put a 350 motor in it and rode it around for quite some time as a 250 then flogged it.
Cheers

Yea still got the 1975 400/4 Pete... hoping to start using it again this coming summer. Attached is the bollocks Mark Williams wrote about it in Motorcycle Mechanics .So no I am not restoring a sandcast 750 (it's a dicast K0) , the 400/4 is not a K2 model as there never was one !!! and I never had a cash crisis... I was merely moving house. It should be Varnish Blue and I do have a nice VB tank for it now I bought off Ian B, a member on here.

Yes both NOS guards were a tenner Ralph no kidding and a complete in it's box caliper inc pads was 12 quid. Bar switches were really cheap too. I got the rear mudguard by quoting the part number to DS as he didn't know what one looked like...bet he does now! Queens Park Motors in Salford were also good as I got NOS fork stanchions from them for a tenner each.
Good to be back on the forum BTW :) .. Ash

I used to buy nos yamaha parts from a bike dealer who advertised in the back of mcn
i used to see the early DS adds and think to myself WTF is he selling stuff so cheap
Tanks were about 50 quid.
Is that you in the picture of your 400/4

Yea that's me Pete and the rest of the article was true BTW. Sadly I felt a bit shitty for the 18 months after that article came out, due to work hassles, so never got round to completing a book on the electrics...but one day hope to still do it as no excuses now as I really enjoy the work I do... Want to get the bikes finished though as I have all of the parts now.. just need loads of re-chroming doing in the New Year.

Put me first inline for your book Ash lectrics really confuse me.

Ash I'd be interested in a copy of the book as well - seriously, I'm the son of an electrician and I still find electrical theory a bit of a dark art...
-
Oppppp's. Forgot to mention that i got the chemistry book from Ash and not the electric guru one ;D
-
You and a chemistry set now that's scary ;D

You been watching breaking bad Graham?

Nice read once again Ash, would love to read the 'Japanese electrics' book when completed.
Hi Bitsa, late answer, the bike had a Maroon tank/panels, I was guessing it was a K4 but was not really sure.

Think yours was definitely K4 alan. You can tell a K4 by its top yoke 'clamps' (like the 750's) Seat pattern is distinctive too and was side tilting and lockable. Think the CB350K was only ever officially sold in the UK in K4 form. Then there was a later version in the States (not UK) with a front disc brake (sold in Europe too) and then went out to 360 as the 350 was really only a 325cc. My Cb350K1 with the 'fat' cam is supposed to develop 36BHP. Not bad for a 325cc four stroke in the late sixties. Problem is the classic racing fraternity gobble up the engines and parts, particularly the original K0/K1 'fat' cam. Plus the Americans have gone crazy on cafe racers based on them. It will be interesting to photo my '69 CB250SS (incorrectly called a K0) and US spec CB350K1 when completed. Basically the same bike but the mudguards (fenders) are so fugly on the UK model, especially the rear one. For my 250 K0 I have an original rear guard (German ... needs horrible rear reflector hole filling and then rechroming ...expensive) But I also have a beautiful late 'rolled' edge short style American one I got at Stafford from an autojumble stand. Knocked him down from some silly price to 35GBP which was a real steal. Rear guard on theUSA model DK K1 is pretty much perfect and I have a NOS front USA style one, which Mr. Silver sold me before his prices went silly. You can usually tell a SS(K0)/K1/early K2 motor by 'TYPE 1' stamped into the points cover. Think 'Type1' means 180 degree crank but may be BS (CB72/CB77's had an alloy cover with Type one imprinted)
Both my twin bikes have many of the large 'No.8' bolts on them like the 750K0/sandcast. Sorry guys getting anoraky again and said I was going to stop. No banter though :D
