Cheers Guys for your help and advice, I presume you have fitted them onto standard size rims?

Hi Guys, I too am looking to change my current set up of an100/90 x 19” Kenda Challenger front tyre and a Chen Shin 4.00 x 18” rear tyre which were fitted prior to me purchasing the bike . Whilst both tyres do have good tread left on them I do feel the bike doesn’t handle as well as it should and it has a slight bouncing feel at around 40mph on the front, which I suspect is an issue with the front tyre.

The stock tyre size for the CB500 is 3.25 x 19 front and 3.50 x 18 rear, however some people are suggesting a 3.60 x 19 front and 4.00 x 18 rear hence I am looking at replacing both tyres with Dunlop K81 TT100’s if this is possible?
Dunlop's tyre fitment guide suggests fitting a more modern ‘Arrowmax Streetsmart’ tyre but I would rather keep with the traditional lines of a classic tyre if this is possible.

I have wrote to Dunlop and they are unable to advise re the fitment of any tyre that is not of standard size i.e. the TT 100's and therefore recommended I opt for the 'Arrowmax streetsmart'. I fully understand their stance but thought that as the TT's are their tyre some help may have been in the offing.

All help/advise much appreciated

Cheers

Phil, I have a 500/4 K2 and they are exactly the same as mine, you will still need to undo the hex headed cap screw in the base of the fork leg to release the damper and rod but the chrome stanchion will simply slide off when the top nut is undone. Cheers Ian

PS good to see someone local

you could try 750faces.com who stock them, I needed one for the which comes out of the rear of my speedo. Not sure if the part is the same for side entry clocks though. In the end, as they aren't cheap I made one on my lathe instead

Hope this helps

I found a cheaper option was to purchse a complete set of good forks off fleabay, got a set from America for £60.00 inc delivery pretty good condition too.

Tricks & Tips / Re: Carb cleaning (economic method)
« on: June 18, 2014, 01:26:01 PM »
We have one of those steam cleaners, (H2O-X5) which has the option to use it as a hand held steam cleaner, great at this kind of thing but what it will do is melt/move the grease from the area you want to clean and if you dont wipe it off, it will settle where it lands when cooled down etc. probably ok for small components like the carbs tho and cenrtainly worth a try. not sure about the heavily soiled bits tho.

CB500/550 / Re: Clutch slip
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:52:18 AM »
The clutch on my 500 K2 would engage all at once when setting off and also slipped badly when opening up the throttle. I too thought that this was normal especially after reading the article in the brooklands book (Honda CB500 & 550 fours performance portfolio page 74).
However when I replaced the clutch cable which was too long as the bike was a USA import but the previous owner when putting UK handle bars on didnt change the cables, I also striped down the adjuster, cleaned out all the old grease etc and replaced the return spring that had stretched, re greased the adjuster and all now ok. Lets hope it stays that way

Hi Bomber, only just read your message, they are still the same, they only knock when rocking the bike backwards and forwards, its the damper rod hitting the top of the damper, which only happens when putting the bike on the centre stand and you then pull back on the bars thus extending the forks to their max. No issue on the road. Have now also got a complete set of spare forks which when i get round to overalling them will see if these do the same, my guess is its normal.

You should be ok if the same principle applies to the issues I had getting Historic tax class for mine late last year. The DVLA registered my Us Imported 500/four K2 as jan 1st 73 even though the K2 wouldnt have been built for another 10 months. However as its there mistake I took the opportunity in requesting entry into the historic tax class as per their information doc INF 34 which states that vehicles registered between 1st and 7th Jan 73 must have been built in 72 and hence would be allowed Histotic status. So now I have a Historic tax disc on my K2. See attached link to INF34 doc.

CB500/550 / Re: anyone recognise this part
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:58:17 PM »
looks very much like a clamp off off a laboratory stand which is used to 2 sections together rather than part of a bike, the screws are missing tho. I have one very similar somewhere that comes in handy as a tap wrench when in a tight spot. Just a thought
