Thank you very much for your help, it's much appreciated.
Point taken regarding working with what I have but my thinking is along the lines of me being a complete novice in bike building so I'm thinking if I can get a seperate frame sprayed and ready to go it'll be easier for me to work on one section at a time, restore or replace and remember where everything goes. I know it's a bit of a different method but I'm hoping it'll be fun.
I'll post some pictures as I go.
Thank you.

Thanks for that, I'll let you know how it goes. From what I can gather of other peoples experiences with putting a 650 engine in a 550 frame is that it shouldn't be a problem. I just hope the frontend and swingarm are the same.
I may well put a 550 tank on it too.

CB650 / Cb650c parts onto a cb550
« on: September 23, 2015, 10:55:01 AM »
Hello there,
I have a full 1981 honda cb650c and would like to start my first cafe racer build. I understand that the frame on the 650c dips down at the back so is not ideal. I have seen a 1977 cb550 f1 frame for sale and would like to know if I can swap parts, mainly- swingarm, engine, front end onto this frame?
I think this would be easier than modifying my current frame.
Will these parts fit?
If I have to drill out the 550 frame slightly to accommodate the 650 swingarm will everything else be in the right place, shock mounts etc?
Will the front end be a straight forward switch?
Thank you for you time.
