Title: Oil Filter Seal
Post by: JonnyB on November 09, 2005, 03:15:59 PM
Is it possible to buy the seal for the oil filter housing. I bought a filter expecting a seal but no joy.

John,
I just changed the oil filter on my F1 and I didn't see a seal! would it have been stuck to the case?
Jim.

There should be one on the inside rim of the filter cover. It must have been lost when I cleaned it.

Oh bug**r! I now don't know if I have one or not, I don,t remeber seeing it. I assume I would be leaking a lot of oil if it wasn't there?
Jim.

If you buy the Honda filters they come with an o-ring.

I just bought a pack of 5 from David Silver and they don't (guess you get what you pay for)

I'll bet Bryan Jones has some in his cupboard for the price of a pint!

I suppose then, the answer to the question \"Would you like and original or pattern filter, sir?\" is \"Yes, (I don't mind paying

You should call DS and make sure that the \"original\" filters are in fact OEM and include the o-ring.

I'm not doubting them (I am actually...) but these are consumables and NOS can't possibly have survived this long. If they have, what sort of condition are they in?
I would guess that they're OEM \"as made for Honda\"

Wemoto sell them with or without o-rings at the same price (

Does the seal come already attached to the base of the DS supplied filter? I did not see one on the one I fitted a week or so ago!
Jim.

If you look here, http://www.honda-sohc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=161 on page 13 the seal neaest the filter normally comes with a new one (mine did) the big o-ring sits inside the recess on the housing and the small o-ring seal the bolt. these I think only come with the OEM filters, and the hi-flo filters from Wemoto (looking at the pictures).

BTW. when you changed yours did you have the spring, I don't have one.

Yes mine had a spring, which I am told is essential, however I did not have the spring seat(washer) which I am told doesn't really matter. DSS sells both.
Washer part # 15414-300-000
Spring part # 15415-300-000
