Looks like it is past of no return. Get it blasted to see what you are left with.

I don't think it's even worth spending the money to get it blasted, it'll be easier and pro ably cheaper to search out a good replacement tank. Fuel tanks can be tricky to weld at the best of times, but the amount of rot along the side to base seam would be a challenging job for a highly skilled sheet metalworker/t.i.g. welder, and that WILL be expensive!

Bullit,

You could try CW Classics along Rawreth Lane in Rayleigh - he repaired a small hole and minor corrosion along the similar area on my tank with a plate, but it was nowhere near as bad as the one you have !

Let me guess Bullit........is this an 'early' April Fool jape?

When I was an Apprentice I machined too much material off a part. My 'mentor' on the next Lathe told me to go to the Stores and ask for a 'Putting On Tool' to 'put the removed metal back onto the machined part'.

The Foreman took me (and the scrap part) all around the Factory so that everybody knew what I'd done. After this humiliating trek we arrived back by my Lathe where he opened the door overlooking the Irwell Canal where he told me to 'Chuck it in the cut lad........and your job now is to try not to fill it with any more scrap'.

I can still hear the catcalls to this day........

Ain't got one of those, but I have 36 N.O.S. cans of tartan paint, and a box of left handed hammers if you want to make me an offer!

I thought I'd rather see if this can be repaired first rather than buying a "good" used one only to find that also needs repairing or throwing in the bin.

Thanks Andy I'll give them a call as work in South Woodham.

There are no tanks on eBay in the uk. Are there any other tanks that would fit with no or little messing about?

How about a box of sparks for the angle grinder?

They set me for a rubber hammer but fortunately I knew they had one in the tool room so it sort of backfired on them.

With all due respect I think you need a miracle rather than a welder.
Judging by the rust holes you can see the rest of the tank base could be ready to go the same way.
Why not try ebay sites abroad,US, or Europe you may find a replacement there.

Patina rulez!

That can easily be fixed with € 13,90.

A 400/4 tank will fit, but the fitment to the seat can be an issue. Seen it done though. Other than that, 350 tanks come up fairly regularly or try ringing DK's as they have broken loads of 350's recently. The 350F tank is unique to the 350F. Hope that helps. By the way, throw that tank in the bin. As Trigger says, if you blast it there will be nothing left to repair. Don't waste your time and money.

The guy in Sutton who goes under the name of 'Bike Pusher' on e-bay was breaking a pretty good CB350/4 about a month ago.  Try him to see if he's sold the tank. He goes to the Kempton Park auto jumble although contact him first.

Bike pusher isn't very popular on here to say the least.

Yes Roy, He is expensive but sometimes he's the only person who has hard to find parts and to be honest if you do a face to face bit of negotiating with him he does drop the price and does a good deal if you buy a number of parts at the same time.
Steve Cooper is very good and very helpful.
I have bought parts from a number of breakers in the US but the cost of postage and if the parcel is stopped in customs as a couple of mine have been the tax is a killer :o.
I'm just going on my own personal experience though.

Like it or not guys he's breaking good bikes and if he has the part you want ..just go for it ?I say. I am so passionate about finding the correct parts that, hypocritically I know, before I am shot down in flames/ hung, drawn,& quartered,  ...if he had the rare part I wanted I would have no hesitation about buying from him. The engine he sold from that 350 four was an absolute steal.
I like his story where he had a NOS 400/4 exhaust for sale for about £1,500  and also sold a second hand one on eBay. He was out when the guy came to pickup up the second hand one but BP's missus almost gave the buyer the NOS one by accident !  ;D ;D

Ok so I went to Cw classics today as its only 5 mins round the corner and had my head set straight.
My heart was trying to rule my head as I really wanted to keep that worn look the tank has even though deep down I knew it was game over.

I searched 'Honda CB Tank' on eBay earlier, no 350F's, couple of 400F's. Anybody know of a thread with pics of a 350 with a 400 tank?

Please reeducate me if I'm wrong but the limited swap choices seem to be the placement of the coils requiring the two square cut outs on the underside of the tank?
I did notice that some of the 500 & 750 tanks had similar undersides but I'm assuming that those bikes are longer and so would be the tank??

👍 that's the kiddy.
Don't look too bad apart from the seat being all squashed up. I only have a bare seat pan at the moment so wouldn't be too much of an issue if I did go down the route of a 400 tank as it would be easy enough to shorten the pan.

Well done Chris
