Title: Can anyone please identify these parts from a 400/4?
Post by: Paul Smith on April 12, 2018, 08:30:04 AM
I'm down to the last few parts I can't identify where they go! Picture 1 is a small painted bracket that I have 1 off, picture 2 is a bolt with a hole drilled through the middle that I have 2 off and picture 3 is a small curved item with a tapped hole in the centre of it that I have 4 off. Silly bits but probably vital!![attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3]

Pic 2 looks like the bolt that the metal brake pipe into the brake caliper goes through.

The brake pipe is complete, the bolt is also threaded at the hex end/

Is the bolt in number 2 threaded on the inside on the hex end ?

Thanks Trigger, that's a great help. I've attached some more pics of the bolt that is threaded.[attach=1][attach=2][attach=3]

Right, with a better view, that is a headlamp bowl bolt, and reflectors screw into the internal thread.

Should not have a hole all the way through and looks like a head light mounting bolt, that the reflector screws too.

Could be one of D.S's pattern ones, not actually seen one first hand, but an engineering company would probably find it easier than clearing and tapping a blind hole.

You could be right mate, its a bugger trying to clean out a blind hole after tapping  ;)

You need to use all 3 taps in a set to do a blind hole, finishing with a plug tap, and as you say cleaning it of all swarf afterwards. Far quicker (And of course cheaper) to drill and tap straight through. I did have some metric drill and tap combined bits years ago, but buggered if I can find them now.

Thanks for all the replies, it does work as a headlamp bowl bolt and the reflectors fit in the end. Quite a relief as I was beginning to have a horrible feeling that they lived deep inside the engine that I've already started to rebuild!!
