Post by: Hoss09 on December 29, 2018, 10:42:12 AM
Hello
I have just bought a 1977 Honda ss50 which came with no log book so i am trying to register it with DVLA, the problem is i cannot find the engine number, so does anyone know where it should be.

Can't help with useful knowledge on that model.

But you should get someone like Hairygit along soon who has much more extensive experience with those little engines to help you.

Welcome to the forum Hoss.  :)

Behind the front sprocket cover, so you need to remove the pedal cover and the front sprocket cover.

Welcome to the forum Hoss. That's a nice looking 'original barn find' you have there 👍.
Enjoy the restoration and you'll get plenty of help here.
Keep posting progress photos.

Oh, and if it's an early engine, the sprocket cover may be a one piece casting with the generator cover, if it is you need to remove the gearlever as well, and also fit a new gasket behind it as you don't want water getting into the points and causing problems.

Hi Hoss09 and welcome.

My first bike, back in 1973, was an SS50, same colour as the one you’ve got.

That looks like a nice little project :)

Love these little things, and this one looks fairly good. Tatty and a bit rusty sure...but it looks all there, and remarkably unmessed with considering how many learners must have abused it over the years.
