CB350/400 / Re: Genuine 377 exhaust system

When the stub from the headers sort of welds itself to the silencer, it can be an utter bitch to remove.  I even took one to an engineering works and they had a go, and said they couldn't shift it without actually destroying the joint.

Every genuine system I've seen (so quite a lot) has this sort of locking clamp nut, yes.

No it's just a blanking bolt at the top of the drilling the push rod runs in. If you choose to push down on the end of the rod while tensioning, then as always on all these engines, just enough and no more is what you need. They used to say "gently while the noise lessens" or something like that.

All of this, yes.  The problem is the 'horseshoe' under the crank burring its pivot and then sticking.  You can free it off by removing the sump and going in with a broad-bladed screwdriver to push on the cast-in lug, and a bent coat hanger to pull it back again.

Don't know if you have a strobe to verify the timing while it's running. It could be slightly advanced which can lead to spitting.

You really need to have the ignition timing (and valve clearances) perfectly set before doing proper carb balancing, with the carbs on the bike and the engine running, obviously.

(I refuse to say F1 for the usual reasons), so frame-mounted pillion pegs, original and unrestored though it's had the usual new parts over the years.  Exhaust, tank forks, bits and bobs.

My CB750F2 I sold four or five years ago - shouldn't have done that, really.  https://i.imgur.com/3GzbASd.jpg

My CB125S, which eventually wound up in the hands of Motorcycles Unspeakable with a £3,495 price tag  https://i.imgur.com/5cJpTeG.jpg

My old Dresda CB460 - sold that (another mistake).  One of six built by Dave Degens.  https://i.imgur.com/a3Gh6.jpg

Never forget that an ex is a has-been and a spurt is a drip under pressure.

If it's only missing at idle, it's probably the pilot jets.  Condensor(s) a possibility.  Does it rev cleanly elsewhere?
