CB350/400 / Carb Rebuild - to do myself or send away?
« on: November 22, 2020, 01:31:09 PM »
Hi,

I thought I might have a go at the carbs whilst its damp and it's a job I can do while waiting on other parts and more cash.

My first question is do I send them away as an easy option and get them back looking like new and who might do that?

Should I do it myself  (I've never done this before)? I think I can rebuild them and have started but already the first carb has the float pin stuck >:( I dont want to end up damaging them). The bike was sat from 1997 so I guessing lots of 'stuck' parts may await me.
and....not sure if I should strip them down to every single component or part strip before getting cleaned in a friends ultrasonic cleaner.

Thanks in advance again

Hi,  me again!

I thought I would clean the front brake caliper bracket up. I cant take it apart. I don't think its threaded or is it. Is there a trick to parting the two pieces?

thanks in advance

« on: November 15, 2020, 02:24:21 PM »
Hi all,

attempted to fit the side stand today and using my Honda parts but the bolt is way to small. I believe i ordered the correct item.

The nut I ordered from DSS seem to be the right size. Did I get it wrong?

CB350/400 / to grab rail or not?
« on: October 28, 2020, 04:10:42 PM »
Hi,

after a collection of expensive chroming and the lack of rear indicator brackets i am toying with using the grab rail that came with the bike. Chroming it will be expensive so I was thinking of spray painting or powder coating. At least this has the brackets for the indicators already or do I sell my Jack Russell to pay for a pair from DSS? :-\

CB350/400 / Swing Arm Insertion
« on: October 03, 2020, 03:08:27 PM »
Hi,

after getting stuff back from the plating company, I started to install my swing arm. I am struggling to get the swing arm with the caps on to fit, not sure if is the powder coating on the frame that will not allow it to be pushed through to line up with the bolt. Anyone else had this issue and if so how did you get round it? I'm think maybe a bottle jack or scissor jack inserted into the fram just to push it out a little. That should be ok?????
 :-\

CB350/400 / Current progress with my build
« on: June 21, 2020, 04:35:51 PM »
So I thought I update you all with my current progress of my 400 build.

Let say first that I didn't expect it to be cheap but for crying out loud, it's expensive!

So in no particular order.

Frame powder coated plus a few other bits
New wiring loom on
Tapered head bearings in
New steering lock (now doesn't lock after attaching the revit!
New rear shocks attached.
Lots of bolts gone for zinc plating hence why the swing arm is not on
Headlight rims, rear brake, rear mudguard and some bots gone for chroming (damn that's expensive)
Front wheel has new rim and spokes and all together after 5 attempts. Now ready for tube, tyre etc
Clocks are stripped, and surrounds painted. Debating whether to leave the faces as are and just put back together again.
Fork tubes need grinding and re-chroming then  I build them up.
Rear wheel needs stripping and rebuild
engine, fully dismantled. All cases painted expect engine block. Its still to dirty so I'll get it vapour blasted.
Cam bolt adjusted drilled out and new fitted
Some engine parts bought in readiness but there is a substantial amount to do and spend yet
One side panel needs repair before painting same as the tank
The handle bar I'll by a reproduction as its £70 to get it re chrome
I need to source seat, head lamp holder, indicator brackets, air filter grill, gear lever  (re chroming makes not viable)
I need to get the front mudguard re chromed
front brake needs to be refurbishment
Mirrors, transfers and host of other things I've not mentioned or though of yet!

Hi,

CB350/400 / Engine Cases
« on: March 31, 2020, 08:09:34 PM »
Hi all,

seeing as we are 'staying in' instead of being out but not out out I thought I will wire brush and wet and dry the engine case for painting. is this an accepted method?
