DK spares are advertising an exhaust system for a 550 f1/f2 which are admittedly very hard to find, and if it was mint it maybe worth buying, but this one is dented and rusty in places. Would anyone pay this price?

Those dents are right and the front and make the system not worth anything like the asking price. My system is far better.

Scrap ::) if you are going original it needs to be superb or better or you might just as well go aftermarket ;)
-
Why worry... personally I would buy a new delkevic or similar (also from DK btw)… but if they think they can sell it good luck to them, somebody might want it

It's not scrap, ok it's seen the road in some intimate detail but essentially it's all still there. You could weld a rod to the header dents and pull them out and then silver braze them and rechrome I suppose. Same could be done to the silencer. It all depends on how much work your prepared to do and how skilful you are I suppose. There are members on here who would look at that as patina ;D ;D ;D
As I said scrap ;)

Its a lot of work on a system that already costs a fortune. I'd really like an original system like that, but for that money I'd not want to be ploughing more cash in to make it perfect. I'll stick with the Delcavic at half that price.

There's another set on ebay at the mo from a seller in Northern Ireland. They appear to be in better condition than the set the OP was referring to, but at an even higher price. :o It does say make an offer I suppose!

yes saw that, at least it looks to be in decent condition so may be worth it to someone.

Did make a offer on that one but, was turned down. Not mint as, there is rust on the down pipes and for me to fit them to one of my bikes they, would need re chroming. The risk in re chroming these is the pickling would effect the inner pipe and not sure if it would hold out.

Its probably not worth me asking if he'll accept £55 quid then? ;D ;D ;D

Negotiations broke down around the 595 mark ;)

I suppose when you look at the prices for say an Akrapovic system for a modern sports bike, then £6 or 700 quid is reasonable for these old Honda systems. I know a guy locally who paid over 2 grand for a set of original unused exhausts for a Yamaha RD400 recently.

The Akrapovic can for my Tiger 800 was £600. No idea what a complete system would cost.
Sounds good though and is easily sellable when the bike goes.

A full Akra system for my Tuono V4 is about £2 grand.

I'm sure I can't be the only one to have seen this:

That system the OP mentioned still looks to be for sale.

Having had two Hondas who’s exhausts have been NLA for years, HM300 s and CL450 systems have been on my eBay watch list forever.
I never cease to be amazed when battered and rusty systems, that if they were on my bike I couldn’t wait to get off and throw in the skip, are put up for sale at daft money. If you were trying to do a top class restoration you wouldn’t give them shed room, if you weren’t that bothered then you’d want them cheap.
I often think that if they haven’t come off a breaker, then they’re the exhausts that someone else didn’t want to be seen on their bike, so they have found a better set.
