Title: Headlight retaining bolts
Post by: ted_paper on August 30, 2015, 02:54:46 PM
Hi, this is probably a daft question. I've just got round to removing my tax disk holder which was held on via the side reflector/ headlight bolt. When trying to screw the bolt back in, it just pushes straight into the headlight shell. Is it possible that  I might have  disturbed a retaining nut in the  shell?
Thanks

Yes. quite likely, you'll need to remove the bulb/reflectot assy from the shell to locate the nut, it's often got some geen wires attached to it for the earthing points. Hold  it in place while you replace the bolt, refit the bulb/reflector assy. job done:-D

The nut is on a plate that slides into a slot on the inside of the headlamp shell, maybe it's been pushed out of the slot, you can see what I mean about 3/4 of the way down this page (http://www.skylinesoftware.co.uk/400four9.html) of my restoration/cafe build.

If you put some glue behind those nuts they won't fall off next time.
