Project Board / Making space for the bikes
« on: May 04, 2024, 09:37:28 AM »
There's not really a right place for this but yesterday was concrete pour day for my workshop (day job) to make space in my current place for my bikes.  5m³ of concrete is quite a lot to move and level, I'm aching a bit today!

CB500/550 / 550f master cylinder
« on: April 20, 2024, 09:18:38 AM »
While replacing the standard bars with clip ons I've found as i suspected that the master cylinder gets on the way, can anyone recommend a modern replacement that may fir and have the same piston bore? Lots of cheap gsxr and ninja ones on Ebay

Project Board / Numberplate bracket
« on: March 18, 2024, 06:15:37 PM »
I'm trying to settle on a side mount design for my project and remember seeing one that I think Julie has on her bike, I've tried searching for it but failed.  Am I right and if so can anyone direct me to it?

CB500/550 / 550 indicator relay
« on: March 14, 2024, 05:45:17 PM »
I've bought a new 2 pin led relay for my 550 but to my surprise the one fitted to my bike is a 3 pin, I thought they were all 2 pin?

CB500/550 / First start after rebuild
« on: March 08, 2024, 08:38:22 PM »
Very soon I should be ready to start my rebuilt engine, just valves and electronic ignition to adjust and exhaust to fit, having never done this before what procedure should I follow?  I'm slightly nervous about it to say the least, really hope I've done everything correctly.

CB500/550 / CWC spokes
« on: February 28, 2024, 09:10:12 PM »
I've received my spokes from Central Wheel Components today, just laced up the front wheel but they've got the outers wrong on the bend, there's not enough length on the bend to allow it to have the right angle towards the rim nipple.  I've ordered from them before an d so far never had them sent correctly.

CB500/550 / Front hub bearings
« on: February 20, 2024, 08:17:01 PM »
When replacing bearings in a 550 front hub are they pressed in to place in the same order as on the rear, so retainer side first then the right side (non retainer side) until it just contacts the spacer?

CB500/550 / Fork seals
« on: February 16, 2024, 07:57:28 PM »
I'm soon going to be giving my 550f forks a total overhaul, I'm intending losing the gaiters for non f1 seals and dust caps and have looked at pyramid parts and All Balls, are they near the same product or is one better than the other?  I've read some have improved oil seals.

I'd like to fit emulators having used them in my sv650 in the past, anyone tried them on a 550?

Anorak's Corner / Powder coating rims
« on: January 25, 2024, 11:21:01 AM »
My rims are so rough I'm thinking of Powder coating them black, does any one have any experience of this of stripped chrome rims, how hard wearing is it going to be with tyre changes etc?

CB500/550 / Rear bearing advice
« on: January 14, 2024, 03:46:48 PM »
I'm stripping my rear wheel to rebuild it with a replacement hub to rectify the split lining.  I've drifted the old bearings out and have noticed the inside of the races were fitted with the seal removed, should I do this with my new NTN bearings?  One other question, I can't find a replacement 'd' ring that seals the hub to the sprocket carrier, can I just fit an appropriately sized oring?

Anorak's Corner / 530hd chain question

Just a quick query regarding RK 530h chains, do they have a rivet or split link?

CB500/550 / Chasing large diameter internal threads
« on: December 30, 2023, 04:15:29 PM »
I've got a cb550 rear hub from a member on here but the internal tread on the bearing retainer is a bit damaged a few threads in, I've googled it but can't find a way to clean up the damaged thread other than at a machine shop.  Does anyone have a home workshop method of cleaning it up?

CB500/550 / 550 rear brake plate
« on: December 27, 2023, 06:03:52 PM »
Can I ask the experienced members on here whether this style of brake plate from a 550 fits both the K and F models?  I'm aware of the other style with raised flanges leading to the control arm but I can't see why the type in the photo couldn't fit both models.  Mine on my 550F has had a big lump snapped off it so needs replacing.

CB500/550 / Inlet port matching
« on: December 23, 2023, 11:48:31 AM »
The inlets on my cb550 are pretty poorly matched, is there much to be gained in tidying these up or am I wasting my time?
