Title: Phil Read Replica
Post by: H2 frankie on July 26, 2016, 06:50:05 PM
I recently bought a PR Replica off EBay.
Not quite as bad as the one on the motorcycle show, but it still needs a lot of work!
Having watched the to show it sounds like The F2 Cb750 engine was left standard.
One slight problem I have with this bike was that there is no number stamped on the engine, frame no is perfect and corresponds with v5. I was told the original cases were damaged by a broken chain and they were swapped by a dealer who didn't  Re stamp the new casings, may or may not be true, who knows!
Does anyone know how I can get the motor stamped?
Ps the motor runs and sounds sweet!
Cheers
Frank

Welcome

Cases being swapped is not unusual with the 750 so look after your chain.  ;)

Hi John
Wow! You are on the doorstep!
I am often in Swanwick as I deal with a company there.
Would love to catch up with you sometime for some inspiration!

no excuses for not dropping by then!!my phone numbers are on the website so give me a call....www.cb750f2hondabritainoc.co.uk
I have located about 45 surviving read replicas and 30+Honda Britains so its been a worthwhile project.I don't think your bike is on my list as whenever I have seen it on the internet, they hide the number plate.....

Hi, I will definately give you a ring.  I have had a quick glance on your site, as originality is my main worry, Ignition key location is a bit of a bodge, a plate has been made up inside the fairing at the front next to the screen, not sure if this is the correct place. It has the chromed steel rod with the tank rubber as described, rearsets seem correct, exhaust is not right but it came with a black stubby silencer as original. so the basics seem correct,
speak soon  frank

I never understood the reason for relocating the ignition switch to the inside of the fairing. When I first read about this machine in a 'BIKE' magazine road test on the Isle of Man during the TT it was questioned then.

The centre pages of that particular edition of BIKE inspired me to take a similar piccie of my 750F2 outside of the Highlander pub when I was over there for the TT back in '83
