Morning all,
Can someone please tell me if my 400F would pass an m.o.t. with brake light operated only from pedal ? Does it have to operate from pedal + front lever ?
Thanks,
Kenny.

Clue : Depends on the age of the bike.
-
"Machines first used before 1 April 1986 must have a stop lamp that operates from at least one brake control."
From MOT testers handbook
https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/m1s01000301.htm
Admin: might it be a good idea to put the MOT testers handbook link in a sticky thread?
-
Its an April '76 bike. :)
-
In that case, either front or rear, as long as one or the other puts the light on it is sufficient.
-
That has put my mind at rest. Can put it for test now. :)
Thank u for replies.
Kenny.

I believe if a switch is on both and visible they both have to work, if no switch it is fine.

That is correct ;)

Hi,
It seems front stop light switch is working. But it takes an enormous amount of pressure at lever before light comes on. Can somebody tell the cause of this, and how to fix it, please.
Cheers,
Kenny.
-
Well thats Ok then, coz these brakes need an enormous amount of pressure before they do anything ;D ;D ;D
-
Duff switch? Or muck in the brake line restricting pressure to the switch?
Just been and tried mine and the brake light comes on with little pressure at the lever.
I may have a spare switch kicking around somewhere but would need to have a search for it.

They are new brake lines, so I'm hoping there's no muck there. As for switch, I thought there might be something not right there. So I ordered a new one yesterday from D.S.
Thanks for offer Chris 400F. Will try new switch, and keep fingers crossed. :)

If that pile of shitalian dung has done that while riding it, torch it! If it wasn't such a dangerous situation I'd probably fall off my chair laughing, you young'uns will never learn! ;D ;D ;D ;D

;D ;D ;D

Ha. Should have bought German instead.
-
The BMW F650 guys are always keen on saying the same thing but what they fail to mention is there bikes are built alongside the Pegaso in the same Aprilia factory.
The Peg is 20 years old now so the Honda one only lasted twice as long. :P
-
Got and fitted new switch. Working perfect now with just a little bit of pressure @ lever. :) :)
Thanks all.
Kenny.
-
Excellent. Ready for the MoT now then?
-
Yep. Hopefully this week.

My bike has had only front brake switch for the last 22 years and has passed MOT each year. I didn't have a rear switch when I assembled the bike and ever since I've been meaning to get one but never get round to it.

There is no mention of switches in the MOT testers handbook, only that pre Apr '86 bikes have to have "at least" one brake working the stop lamp.
Like Florence, some of my bikes have both switches but some don't work and never fail MOT's with one working.
Here again is the MOT Testers Handbook from the GOV.UK website
