Title: fitting the starter motor

Hi,
This may seem to be a trivial issue, but I'm trying to locate my rebuilt starter motor into the engine casing and the 'O' ring is refusing to squeeze into the aperture.
I'm in the middle of a complete engine rebuild, so the lower engine casing has been cleaned and vapour blasted etc and all the parts so far fitted correctly.
I've fitted a new starter 'O' ring, purchased from D Silver, so I'm expecting it to be tight but with the starter located to within 3 or 4 mm there is little room to 'joggle' the 'O' ring or ease it into a correct seating position.

The bike is a 550/4 which I purchased as a pile of bits. Not a good start I know, but I'm taking my time and being methodical and buying new/second hand where I can.

Try a smidgen of rubber grease around the o ring, NOT normal grease, the use a tyre lever or similar to push against the housing and the starter should go in. They can be very tight!

I had engine oil on it, but will try again tonight.
Like your tag, has anyone used "if it's got tits or wheels, it's going to be expensive!"
