Obviously fork ears are wrong .

He mentions "Anyone who knows their bombers" ????? Black Bombers were the first CB450 twins, but never heard a 500Four referred to as a bomber!

Not correct ;)

He does have a early bomber for sale too...guess he had a brain fart...

Quite a lot to sort out on that K0 imho. But, it's a very early example and priced about right given how early it is. If it were mine I'd:
Put the correct rear fender / light bracket back on
Find a correct grab rail
Find a decent original non-repro/recovered seat
Fit correct fork ear reflectors
Purely an opinion, nothing more.
I believe Ash knows this guy - Ray??
-
I think i would put the horn cable guide bracket up the right way too?
-
Yes its Ray he's got more immaculate Bombers than probably anyone else on this planet. Can't see photos very well on my crappy phone during interval at acoustic music night. Bloomin early one though.

Does anyone know roughly how many cb500 bikes honda would have produced per day ......just curious

They were very fast workers back then, I would say more than 10 a day ;D ;D ;D Don't think any ones knows ;)

My K0 is 23000 ish and marked 7/71, so if another member has a K0 and production month it could be calculated. But no doubt it built up to peak production by July 71 and would be producing maybe 600-1000 per week.

Mine I am restoring that I got from James is 3/71 manufacture date like Ray's and VIN is 896 if that helps with your detective work.
-
The add says vin is about 450

Anyone noticed the lack of 'Made in Japan' emblems on the side panels? .... Bryan ??
Problem with bikes like that is the temptation to fully restore then you get yourself into deep pocket spending. Ideally they should be left alone but it rarely happens...somewhere along the line they get torn apart. I reckon that the gearbox in that bike, if never fixed, will be on borrowed time due to the early problems they had.

Tricky one Ash. As you know, I have three of these early square case 500's that are unrestored. All need new pipes and one has suffered cosmetically from poor storage - but they're all very low mileage original examples and run like swiss watches. So difficult line to tread between sympathetic recommissioning and a full resto...

Quick look and I recon
Incorrect rear light bracket and light
Big reflectors on headlamp brackets
Speedo and tacho on wrong sides
Colour too orange, but that could be photos
No side panel transfers
UK bars
Not UK rh switch

Trigg showed me the countershaft of a 500K0 very low miler and it was toast, mine had the countershaft cage breaking up in the needle roller bearing when I stipped it and the 'York Guru' told me that not many of the early squared off crankcase ones survived due to the gearbox problems. There was a Class Action court ruling against Honda on it. I wonder if that's what delayed them bringing it into the UK? After the hoo-ha with the 750 sandcast crankcase breakages they probably worked pretty sharpish in putting it right and delayed importing it here. Difficult one for you James unless the bikes you have were recalled and fixed. The one you have with the resprayed flake brown tank has a superb seat profile ..never seen a better one ;)
