I need to replace the horn on my 400 I dont think I would be able to get one of the originals with the plastic cover, what would be the recommendations for a replacement.

Have you tried fixing the original? Ashimoto done an article about boiling them in a saucepan (not joking) and other things you can do to get them working again.

unfortunately I dont have the original I was going to try and get a second hand one and either fix it or fit the plastic cover to a similar one if I can find one.

I do have another theory though, not tried yet .. feed the horn with high frequency, high voltage with voltage high enough to jump the high resistance film on the points. The discharge arc may electrically 'clean' the contacts and if left arcing for long enough may destroy the resistive corrosion layer. ... I do have a horn somewhere...will have to try it out sometime.

I picked up a pair of the chrome covered horns like on my 350 dirt cheap six screws cleaned the points and they work lovely, a pair of two tones now for my Zed.

The 400/4 horn is different though .. the 350/4 is probably like the CB350 twin & CB750K0-etc and can be easily dismantled to get to the points. On the 400/4, CB250/360 G5, etc it's crimped together and to gain full access to the points you have to de-crimp as detailed in my write-up. Or use one of the other fixes.

Ive found one on Ebay its a Mitsuba MB-E it is used on lots of old Hondas I just need to find a cover to finish it off.

No problem I dont think it will stop me from putting the bike on the road, I got a horn from another Honda which is identical apart from the cover so Im sure one will come along.

This doesn't have a picture of the rear but worth investigating to see if it's similar to 400/4 style , OK it's black but if you are not a purist,it may be a cheap alternative to the original.

Thanks for that, I managed to get one from another Honda it looks to be the exact horn without the plastic cover, a lot of the Hondas from the 80s and 90s use the Mitsuba MB-E so I got a good one for a tenner of ebay.
