For those with bikes registered/ manufactured in 1977, the DVLA website has been updated to state " History " vehicle tax class now applies. 😁
-
Good innit 👍
-
I'll be first in the queue at the post office Tuesday.
-
Do you have to apply and pay the 25 pounds for change of logbook

The procedure is. Take your V5 to the Post Office. Give it to the Teller. Tell them you want to change the taxation class to Historic vehicle. They do the rest. No money to pay. Simple as.
Sean.

The DVLA states, apply at a Post Office that deals with vehicle tax.
You need to take:
the log book (V5C) in your name
your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11), if you have one
an MOT certificate that’s valid when the tax starts, or evidence if your vehicle’s exempt from an MOT (V112)
an insurance certificate or cover note (only in Northern Ireland)
-
All makes sense but at present the V112 only declares MOT exempt declaration pre 1960. Soooo, I'm assuming we will have to wait until they update the V112 or May 18th or 20th or whatever it is if the bike is not MOT'd at present.
-
It depends on the post office. My one couldn't do it because they didn't know how, so I had to sent the V5 off to Swansea.
I while later I had 3 envelopes back.
One to say that they were going to change the taxation class.
Another containing my new V5
A third envelope containing a refund cheque.
-
I thought all the mot and insurance stuff was checkable without the actual bit of paper, but rules is rules.....
Yes I would think you're right about the May 20th date if your bike's mot has expired and you aren't going to have it tested again.
-
I didn't need mot and insurance, lady at the PO scanned V5, got me to sign the box, tore the bit off to send to the DVLA and did so (no charge), gave me a receipt saying taxation class changed to historic12 months tax paid at nil cost. Painless!

👍👍👍👍👍

Just tried to tax my 550 online and its telling me I need an MOT to tax it. ???

You do still need an MOT to tax it up until May 20th. Sooooo either get it MOT'd now or wait till 20th May and then you can tax it with no MOT. Just thinking Mick, when was your bike 1st registered / manufactured?
-
I think I can wait that long as the roads are filthy anyway.
I did 130miles on the Aprilia yesterday and it now looks like its been around the world.
-
Registered 01/09/76 and declared manufactured 76

Steve, I hate ALL wine, something to do with getting ratted on a bottle at 14, can't even stand the smell of it! Strictly a quality cider/scrumpy man, don't even like beer or lager!

The 400 is a project for the distant future ::)
It turns out the bike didn't quite make the trip trouble free as Iv just noticed play in the cush drive which seems a bit strange when it was fine less then a thousand miles ago when I changed the chain and sprockets.

If your bike was registered in January 1978 you'd be annoyed >:(
-
Mine was registered late Jan 77... had to wait a year, but it's been Sorned all bar a few months. Looking forward to getting out again.

Could be worse at least you have something to look forward too.
-
I still have to wait 10 years for one of the first registered CD 250's :'(
-
I thought I had a strange obsession with the 250 but I'm beginning to worry about you Graham. ;D ;D

Once it started, which took a while due to an air lock in the fuel line, I had a road tax free run down the road to Brighton and back. Splendid.
-
;D ;D ;D I bet that was the only thing in Brighton that was free this afternoon. Love Brighton, used to go there a lot when I lived in Crowborough.
-
Crowborough, home of John Harris Motorcycles. A fine town, I worked and lived in Uckfield for a few years.
-
It is indeed a fine town and I miss not living there very much. I can't even remember how many Hondas I have bought from John Harris M/c's over the years, well Steve Harris actually but it's well into double figures.
Did you enjoy your ride today?
-
I certainly did, first ride of the year for me I live Seaford now and popped over to Hove and then Brighton. Really spring like at last.
-
Forgot to say, John has retired and Steve runs the place. I still take my bikes there for their MOT.
