Carefull with those there are a lot out there that use the long bolt as a pivot instead of fitting a bearing collar

Hello Bryan.
That's interesting. Thanks for the tip.
I'm not holding much hope of finding one. But if one turned up. It may look the part on what I'm building.

I have a 500 one and i think i can bore/ream the alloy inserts in the pivot to fit the proper collar but that is a future project to go with the 605, webcam 58A, and stage 2 head--------should be fun!!!!

You could try Dave Degans at Dresda Autos in Rusper. He used to make his own box section arms for a number of bikes. I have one fitted to my Triton but I know he also made them for Honda's so is likely to still have the pattern.

He was still making them last time I was down there.

Made to order though and not cheap.

Not cheap but very popular back in the day for sure

One of the most common Dresda bits to sell back then.

I didn't know he was still at it.
Every credit to him.
The Dresda arms were the nicest of the lot i think.
I thought the Davida ones were not so good.
I just thought I would ask on here, cos if there was one to be had. It would be here.
I don't desperately need a box section swing arm.
But I'm building a K1 as it could have been done in the 70's
Using only custom parts of the period.
It would appear I have inadvertently built  Japauto replica.
As seen in another recent thread. Only in blue/green.
Not bad concidering it was a Chopper when I bought the bike.

Hi. I have one that came on my bike along with the original. I have reverted to the standard so the box section one is now spare.  Mine is a K0 but as far as I'm aware there was no change on a K1 swinging arm. PM me for details. John.

I would love to post Pics.
But I am a real Dimmock with all things IT.
I haven't a clue how to do it.
I suppose I should borrow a small child to show me how.

Sean, here's a pic of my early K RC box section arm fitted to an Automatic frame.
I'm only posting it to check out how easy it is and then maybe I can talk you through it.

Hello Sam.
I don't have a computer. I don't even have a Telly!
I do what bit I do on my phone.
I don't use social media. ie, Facebook, WhatsApp etc.
I feel the likes of FB is killing the forums.
But thank you for your kind offer of help.
Regards.

Well, I'm amazed. We don't have a TV either, haven't had one since we moved over 3 years ago. We  don't even watch TV programmes via the computer. We had heard there was someone else in the UK without one.....it must be you 😀😀😀😀 By the way people moan about the rubbish on the telly, all 978 channels or whatever it is these days, it doesn't sound like we are missing out on much !!!!.

Thought I'd reply during an advert break on 'Flog it' 🙄. I didn't have a TV for 5 years in the late 80's and never missed it. I didn't have a car for 15 years, didn't miss that either! I got both a TV and a car when I met the o/h and now suffer with strictly every Saturday evening after I have managed to find somewhere to park 😟.
Nice looking bike Sam, that's some oil filter you have going on there!

Wow guys, I'm the other way round, I have a TV (for what it's worth) but Smart phones, they're just to smart for me. hahaha.
I was going to say, if you had a computer, I could have talked you through it, but on a phone, I've no idea what you are seeing.
I've had the same problems with friends because they don't see what I see.

When you make a post to the forum, do you not see Attachments and other options ?

Sam. ;)

Laverda120, I'm not sure what the oil filter is but it's connected to an adaptor that allows me to run the oil cooler off it.
I think the adaptor came from Terry in Australia who is on the sohc4.net forum.
I used the bike for Drag Racing in the Southern States and it needed the cooler on account of the heat over there.
The bike is the American Automatic version and keeping the oil at a stable temperature is critical as I ran in the ET classes where consistency is the name of the game. Get the oil to hot and you're on your way home and it's a long way to England. hahaha

Did it come from the States Sean and are you sure what year it all is ?

Yes. Surely only the Yanks could find that attractive.
Its a lash up to be honest. 71 K1 chassis on a J plate.
With a K4 engine. I really only bought it for the engine & carbs. I have my old F1 rolling chassis & thought I would use the engine in that. But a F1 is well...just that. An F1.
So I decided to use the 71 K frame instead. This is never going to be a "investment bike" it's for riding & posing on.
It has Menno paintwork F1 forks with twin F1 brakes.
Koni's 2/4 seat Bellmouths, serck oil cooler, & a black early 70's Marving 4into1 pipe without baffle. + rebuilt F1 clocks.
I have tried to repeat my resent pic posting success. But failed miserably.

You shouldn't have a problem mating the K4 motor with the F1 chassis but measure the top stubs on the frame where the shock fits to be sure. If the near side one is longer than the off side one you will run in to problems.
I've checked the measurements of all the frames except the F1 and all the 750 motors will fit in any frame as will any swingarm, it's when you come to fit the shocks and drive chain that the problems start.

That's fine. But I can't see me using the F1 frame any time in the future. I loved my F1's back then. But now I prefer the K models. Besides I have for some unknown reason a thing about J red,g bikes.
Sean.

Sean, can you check the lengths of the top mounting stubs on the frame of the F1 please (if you have the time) ?

25mm of shoulder & 20mm of thread. = 45mm overall.
Hope this is of assistance.

I thought it might be but wasn't 100% sure, it is the same as all the early Ks.
It's just the late Ks, F2 and Autos that have it longer on the drive chain side.

I wonder why that was?
Title: Re: Box section swing arm?
Post by: SamCR750 on December 29, 2018, 10:29:05 PM
I can only guess Sean as I never measured it but I'm guessing the gearbox sprocket is about 5/8th of an inch further out on the shaft.
On all the later models, everything is cranked out on the near side.
I'll see if I can find a picture of the problems I had when I tried to fit a K swingarm into an Auto frame.

Sean, look at the angle of the left rear strut, this is what happens when you mix early with later model parts.
Can you imagine IF you could get a shock to fit, the problems it would have going up and down.

Was there any particular reason for using a A frame!?

It was all Automatic apart from the swingarm Sean.
