Al,
You also need to look for these markings before you can decipher the colours.

Ignore the red circles, you are looking for the yellow markings on the crank webs.

Thanks
Not very clear but under a torch they are all 1
And to be honest would not even know they there till you pointed this out
(Building a 2T is much easier)

Your con rod weight codes look like you have three weight codes 1.3 & 2 not sure if thats original ? Ah no the weight codes are letters probably on the other side.
You need to look hard at your shells to find any remaining colour codes if you can. The crankcase codes just give you one axis on the charts. There will also be codes on the crank for the big end sizes. Quite hard to find in my case.
If you can't find any colour codes then you will need to measure the crank journal sizes and check them against the parts code charts & then Plastigauge to check the clearances if necessary using a known shell colour as a starting point..

I guess these code on the back of the cases are the case bore sizes and I need to find out the crank main bearing journal sizes so for main bearing one the case is size “A” and the journal size is the number
It’s early days but want to work out now / understand what I need to get as want to replace all shell bearings
Also I presume as all the crank webs have A1 the big ends are red?

Your casing is marked AABBB and your crank looks like 11111 which should give you Yellow Yellow Green Green Green.
Not going to guess which rod is which from the pics but crank looks all As so A1 – Red, A2 – Yellow, A3 – Green.
Hopefully someone will confirm.

I’m confused
I understand the big ends are all looking to be A1 but where do you get the 11111 from for the crank mains please
Big thanks for appreciation to all for this help

I have e-mailed you a copy of the excel sheet I made to help me identify the right colour codes.
-
The letters on the case combine with the numbers on the crank to give you the mains. The letters on the crank combine with the numbers on the rods to give you the big ends.

I don't know what is actually going on!

The letters on the case combine with the numbers on the crank to give you the mains. The letters on the crank combine with the numbers on the rods to give you the big ends.
All is now clear the 1 on each crank web is combine with the case letter for mains
In my case A1 A1 B1 B1 B1
And for the big ends it’s the letter on the crank web This case “A” combined with the number on the rod in my case A3 A1 A2 A2
Now it’s al clear and off to record all before any marks get removed
Thanks every day is a school day
Best wishes Al

Have you found any coloured edges on the old shells ?
Handy if you have at least some.

Well put Deano400.

Will mic up journals anyway to confirm and do a plastigauge check but need to select what I think is correct first
