Title: Piston rings
Post by: pablo on February 09, 2022, 11:07:14 AM
Hi all
Any advice on whether to go with genuine or aftermarket piston rings? And where to buy from given the stock availability for all parts at the moment?
Thanks
Pablo

Ditto Cruzinimage……just don’t ask searching questions  when you order.  :'(

I replaced my rings on the 550 and all measured up factory gap measurements straight out of the box.

Same with Yamiya a couple of years back .. I ordered about £1k's worth of stuff but asked them to cancel some rubber carb top gaskets as they were incorrect for a 750 K0 even though sold as K0. So they cancelled my entire order and immediately did a PayPal refund. So I had to re-order it all again....there were lots of small individual parts in that order so a real pain to re-order again.  Must be a Japanese thing.

Never bought or used anything from Cruzin, so not really qualified to comment. I heard that their rubber parts were breaking up after a short time of usage .. so decided to give them a wide berth in general.

Does a Crumage Piston ring fit a Honda piston on a 400/4 just asking as I have a NOS set of genuine Honda 400 pistons that are p/n  13103-377-000 being plus 0.50 mm always wondered what would happen if one of my rings were broken when fitting? I bought them for my spare engine if my current rebuild goes unexpectedly wrong.

I have been told that the only fault with Crumage rings is they wear quicker than genuine Honda ones - not an issue for me as I will be a low mileage rider anyways..

I've got piston/rings in 3 of my SOHC with no issues (and another 1 sold on) - although no big mileage put on them. I think that Julie/Trig have given good feedback so as they have built many engines, I took that as a good recommend. Same from Mark Paris on .net site - he has a post on what rebore tolerences to use I recall
I'm sure Julie/Trig will comment either way following my post!

Cruzinimage pistons and rings are just fine. If they weren't, we wouldn't have used the quantity we have, which is well into the 100's of sets now. As with anything, the machine work / tolerances need to be spot on for longevity and reliability.

To be fair the bloke who sold me the NOS Pistons made the remark so he had a vested interest - good to read you comment Julie.

It's a wonder Cruzinimage has any customers left  ;D I got banned on his eBay site for asking a question.
Not a problem just go on his website and order them  ;) ;D

Yep I am banned on eBay as well. I have to order from their website, cruzinimage.net. That's not really a bad thing anyway as it's a bit cheaper than eBay.
