Although my rear dampers work cosmetically they are not in great condition - chrome top covers rusted, springs rusty, wrench marks on lower body adjuster.
Toying with buying an aftermarket version that will fit - so far only found these - they look a cheap finish in the photo any pointers please for something closer to the originals?

They look OK Ted but you pay for what you get with suspension,dont forget that. Ive gone aftermarket as the quality is better but like I say, you pay for what you get. The YSS ones, although not visually correct have a good right up and you can find them new from around £100. Go for the best you can,you cant compromise on 'danglers' so do the reading and get the best that suits your needs andfits in well.

I had heard not good reports of those type Ted, Hagons are good but may be a bit long as they seem to "standardize" the length for all the fours

They are terrible Ted, dont do it.
Cant go wrong with Hagon but like what Bryan said.
Basically the more you pay the better they get in general but always check spec. The bikes that the ones you show are listed as fitting, all vary somewhat in weight, having or giving differing performance on what bike you put them on. Thats a bit vauge for me tbhand screems of poor quality, nevr mind the price. Realistically you want a shock thats for your bike not somthing there or there abouts. It'll probably be an awful ride ifyou dont and or restrict what you do on the bike. Just get quality over visual correctness, thats just me and hasnt let me down on anything Ive owned but Iappreciate originailty and the need to keep things Honda.
Everyones different but for me its performance over looking right when fitting suspension on bikes.

Seems a lot of them are 15mm longer than the originals.
Any links to Hagon or YSS as they do not seem to be listed for the 500 ?

Pretty much the same unit Ted.
Cross ref which bikes have the same shock on them as yours through CMS, I bet the 250 didnt have the 500 shocks on it, it would ave been like pogo stick! Likewise the 500 would have a really soft back end with 250 shocks on it....sure;y. Happy to be educated but its spring rate, rising spring rate, spring load, rebound, compression; you know? That spread of bikes is very big for one unit to work optimally on all of them

Get off ebay and google manufacturers, stockists and honda hoarders, you may get lucky. I only use fleabay as a last resort as a lot of stuff on there is pure 'cannon fodder'.

Ted, I can't advise on shocks but I can't see how a pair of shocks like this:

Who knows the true CP of things?
I bought a Radio Controlled new Seiko Wall clock on e-bay for £14.00 a couple of years ago. The same clock was £56 at Argos same model number.
I don't think the business seller was making a loss.

Are you sure that it's a genuine Seiko though, not a Chinese copy?
Lots of fakes out there.

It keeps perfect time purchased when we moved back home after the fire in July 2018.

Is it a 4 wheel drive Seiko and can it handle the jumps well on rough terrain? ;)

Here you go Ted, here's a post I put on a couple of days ago. You won't go wrong with a pair of TEC's for the money.
Cheap shocks are really not worth the money, most look awful after six months and are like pogo sticks when the going is anything but smooth:

Last time I was at Kempton Park I noticed he had a single set for the 400 and another set for the 500 (with the half chrome shrouds). If you need a set get in quick!

I've used TEC shocks on my standard 750k2 and 500k2 and they are good quality. I've had the 750s on for about 7 years and damping is just starting to go - and considering the cost thats not bad. I have Hagon's on my CR750 Rep and they are better for a sportier application but not as comfortable. TEC look standard.
Bought the set for the 500 and they sent the longer 750 units and as it was just before Christmas (and I wanted to move the build on over Christmas), I rang them up the morning they were closing down for the holiday break, they sent a set out next day delivery and said 'just send the 750 set back after Christmas' great service I thought.
