Title: CB550 K0 Front Fork Tubes
Post by: Len2280 on June 27, 2023, 11:34:45 PM
So I stripped down the front end of my American import 1974 CB550 K0 and found some wear on the Fork Tubes and rust on the unprotected area. Decided to get them re-chromed and after looking at various Companies choose one and sent them off. Several weeks later no news started chasing and can't get an answer, now suspecting they never arrived. What ever the reason I now need to find new Fork Tubes. Looked at ebay and can see plenty of Tubes rustier than my originals. Trying to find some new ones the right size (I believe they vary) and the only ones I have found are in America, Cycle Smith Parts Accessories. They are priced at nearly 200 pounds for the pair, but got to add 108 pound postage and duty.  Any help and advise would be much appreciated.

As long as you use a pair you could use any 500/550 and probably 500twin forks

Len that’s shame your forks appear to be missing. Just moving forward loads of advice on here regarding reputable and best companies to deal with, might avoid getting “stung” in the future. AM Philpot the company of choice on here when it comes to forks, others available.

There are many different stanchion lengths and different alloy case lengths on 550's, some have a small return spring and some don't. You can't miss match them or you will end up with a short or longer complete fork . But, Bryan has pointed out they are all the same length as a complete fork  ;)

Len, you made it onto the forum! Welcome. You may want to put something into the 'Desperately Seeking' section....

Thank you everyone for the Advice, which was useful for me. I've decided to go with a used set of Front Forks and if need be, get these re-chromed. I should end up with some spare bits ! The Guy I used before had a lot of recommendations. Like a lot of one man businesses the comms weren't good.

Hi Matt, yes I finally made ! Thanks for the heads up.

If you need them re hard chromed, use philpotts in Luton. They will send a courier to pick them up from you and deliver them back to your door.
