Title: Rear wheel hub fitting
Post by: gary123 on July 07, 2023, 06:14:27 PM
Just sorting out bits and pieces for my next project and "dry fitted" the rear hub using the parts that came with the bike (500ko).
It all goes in ok and looks centred but leaves no room for the chain adjusters, can any body spot what might be wrong.[attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3]

Take out the left hand spacer and show a pic of it Gary, looks too long to me.

I gather you've had the hub apart?

Hub was apart when I got it. I think your right about the left hand spacer.
I pratted about all afternoon with it and as soon as I put the pictures up it looks like the l/h spacer is 5-6mm to big.
If it was that much shorter the adjusters should go in and the hub will go left 3mm, which it looks like it should.

The right side spacer should be 45mm and the left looks like it is too long but, that maybe down to you don't have a chain guard on. If it is the correct size maybe the swinging arm is a tad out Gary  ;)

Not sure if it helps but I had issues with the wrong spacers on my 500 K0 frame - the wheel was to the right of centre I have now fitted as below standard ones in SS from Max.

My brake side spacer is 45 mm - chain side is 32 mm I believe if you have 500 hubs they are the standard size.

The distance on the swinging arm at the ends should be 242  ;)

Not that it needs confirming - fwiw my rear forks are 242 between the ends also.

Thanks for all the info (and birthday wishes0
Swing arm is 242
Left spacer is 32
Right is 50 so that must be the problem. I do have others but not a 45.
Anybody got a manky old one they want to sell ? I know stainless are available but I was going to paint it so seems a bit over kill.[attachimg=1]

I think I might have one Gary but away until Friday ‘Oop Norf’.

I’ve got a load in the drawers at home in the shed.

Well thanks guys, but I just found one. Ted I also found that one you kindly offered. I really must get more organised Ive got stuff all over the place.

It sounds nerdy but I made an Excel Spreadsheet with the location & contents of all my parts - I even turn the item description into pale grey print  when I have fitted the part or it's on my bike ramp - took me a couple of hours over a couple of days to do the list.

I still sometimes mislay an item as I was initially lazy with sub-box contents - I'm retired so have plenty of admin time on my hands.

I print a copy off every few weeks that I use in the garage then update when I have made lots of progress or moved stuff into parts grouped boxes etc. It has saved me hours most weeks as I can usually go straight to the right shelf & box.

I cant be trusted with a spanner, so a lathe is a real no no. :)

Despite my Spreadsheets I can still look for parts that never existed like my brake pedal return spring. Checking on strip  down photos is my last resort whereas if it's not listed it should be my first. My brain is quite good at thinking I have seen something that never was.
