Just a warning to other members I think this listing on Ebay is a scam judging by the guys inability to answer my questions and his indecision of the model year.
-
If someone can't be bothered to answer questions properly then I would be reticent to deal with them, so scam or not this listing isn't putting any effort into responding to you. Is that the sort of person you would be comfortable dealing with?
-
It's registered with DVLA as red and 1st registered in UK June 1978.
-
Oh I have zero intention of pursuing it after the responses he gave, just wanted to warn anyone else.
-
Warning is appreciated too - Thanks!
-
May not be a scam, go and have a look. I have bought lots of bikes from people who don't even know what they have ;)
-
I'd go and have a look if he'd have given some sensible answers but Edinburgh is a long way from Herefordshire and little confidence in the seller.

I might have had a rush of blood to the head

looks like a good project, good luck.

Looks nice from here!
-
Thanks folks, I tried a hard bargain but realised I was going to miss out if I dawdled
-
Looks good as a project. Seat is from a 550K3 by the looks of it ;) And i am sure i have seen that row of garages before ::)
-
I just need fo find an affordable courier now
-
That's an F1 but with a tank and side panels painted in the F2 blue.
Odd he has the tyre pressure warning label off a 400 four on the chainguard.
Looks to have been stood for some time.
-
It was ridden in 2017 then stored in his garage so will need some gentle persuasion I'd imagine. Full going over and soak the piston rings in a little oil first before easing it over by hand?
-
Well done and hope it turns out OK.

My 400 had stood for 10-12 years PO had periodically cranked it over via kick start - I managed to get it going after I had stripped the carbs as they were all stuck solid on the sliders.
Compression was not great - ended up needing a re-bore.
I guess it depends on how far damp air has entered the cylinders via any open valves - you might be lucky.
-
I'm prepared for some work to get it going but it's a good base for a winter project I think.
-
When my 250 Super Dream had stood for 18 months back in the 1960s with a spark plug removed stored in a garden shed I revived it using Redex down the bores. Took several days of squirting in the oil and pushing the kick start by hand but it did eventually turn over. I also had to remove the clutch as the plates had stuck.
Ran superbly once the smoke had cleared from the Redex soaking.

I'd imagine, or hope, the chain guard is off a cb400 because its been removed and replaced at a later date with one off a 400?!
I'm sure I'll be asking on here for advice when I get it home.
-
The 400 four chain guard isn't the same as the 550F one, which is why I thought it was odd. TBH it looks the right shape.
