Title: Ash's coil fix
Post by: DomP on August 29, 2023, 11:11:15 AM
For those that have done the coil fix that Ash has detailed in Aladdinds Cave, is there a more readily available filler such as silicone that can be used?  I can't justify ordering such a large amount of high dielectric epoxy just for four holes, I've got ordinary epoxy resin if that would work?

Thats just the top covering rather than the sealer so not dielectric

Ash did a load of coil for me some years ago now as, a trade for some parts and labour, He asked me to supply the Beru cable and some boxes of Milliput, i don't know if he used anything else.  ;)

I used the RS potting epoxy because I have used it for around 30 years and it has guaranteed dielectric properties. I messaged the manufacturer of the black epoxy putty about its electrical properties but they couldn't guarantee anything. You may be OK with Araldite but the non-rapid version if you can still get it. Do not use silicone as it's not physically strong enough and nothing will bond onto it.

Thanks folks, I'll order some black milliput.  Their website claims it to be electrically insulating but I'll bond the ht lead in with epoxy

Plus one on the Ash coil fix method (in fact plus two)….it works and works well.
