Title: Spare steering lock key?
Post by: Waggles on April 05, 2012, 10:00:23 AM
Hi Guys,

Have 3 ignition keys for my F1 so am OK there, but only got one steering lock key, does anyone know if the blanks are easy enough to get? I note it is stamped 'Made in Germany... '

If it's the original key that you have, it should have a number on it, if it does, you can order one at your local honda dealer, and it's often cheaper than finding a blank and getting it cut ;D

Even if you haven't got the original key, the face of the lock barrel should have the number stamped into it.  As for duplicates, there's folks on US eBay who have supplies/stocks of old keys.

I needed one for the k7 and was told that keys for these are unavailable due to security purposes and I would need to order a new complete barrel and key set.

Even if that is the case, Dave silver has them at a reasonable price

Just looked at DS site.  The price is a lot cheaper now than when I was looking!

Thanks guys,

Yes I have the original key with number, so could try and order one, have also found a place that specialises in key blanks, will send them an image and see, will let you know how that goes . Obviously could replace whole lock but it seems a bit OTT for a spare key, but as a last resort .....

When I found that the single key for the 400/4 was a bit too worn I took the lock number (under the seat lock) to our local locksmith and had 2 new ones cut.
Apparently being a good locksmith he had all the keycodes on his computer and was able to cut the keys to original specification. Price was OK @ £6 each.
