Title: What type of throttle?
Post by: Nagoshak on July 17, 2012, 05:12:50 PM
Should i use a dual cable throttle or a single cable like this.

This is for use with original carbs

It's entirely up to you. I've never had the second cable on my bike and never had any problems.
If you use the Tomaselli you're going to need new switchgear.

And a serious workout for your right wrist, had one of these on a 400/4 many years ago, and the throttle was cripplingly heavy, plus your insurance company wont like it! Plus as Lester said, you'll need to find alternative switchgear, and that's serious hassle! :'(

Fogor to add the most impotant point, it will seriously restrict the travel on the front brake lever, which is to be avoided at all costs! :-[

I have a '70's Tommaselli quick twist on my 500/4, I didn't fit it a PO did but made a reasonable job of it, he machined (sacrilige now but back then? :-\) the throttle twist grip part of the switch gear off and snuck the new quick twist up against the switch.

Its not as short as original but Ok, and I have dogleg levers so the brake lever clearance isn't an issue.

The throttle is heavier, I put a different throttle return spring on to help. (Much sucking of teeth :o  but still heavier than cable slides return springs ;))

What type of spring did you use Tom? I hate the way I need to take two swings at my throttle.

Engineers stores where I worked at the time, with my spring in hand went throught the shelves of tension springs until I found one weaker, they are ordered in long lengths, and cut myself a bit off and made up a spring.

That doesn't help does it LOL, sorry ::)

The throttle in the link will be horrendous. you will soon get fed up with that.
Stiff controls make a bike horible to ride. That throttle is for a large bodied carbuettor single cylinder motorcrosser  and IMO is entirely unsuitable. (I have tried one)

Mine has about the same amount of lift per 1/4 turn so presumably the same throttle, its not too bad to use, I've had it on the bike for 28 years and don't notice it, though did when I first got the bike.
